Our mandate and role
The System?Wide Evaluation Office conducts system?wide evaluations and provides evidence on the contribution of the Â鶹APP development system to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Independent, system?wide evaluations assess collective results, performance, and effectiveness of the Â鶹APP development system. It is focused on system?level results, rather than the performance of individual Â鶹APP entities. This provides accountability, transparency, and collective learning, to support decision?making system-wide.
UNSDG System?Wide Evaluation Policy
The Â鶹APP Sustainable Development System?Wide Evaluation Policy, defines the purpose, scope, and principles for system-wide evaluation across the Â鶹APP development system.
The policy sets out the procedures and mechanisms for the conduct and use of system?wide evaluations to support accountability, learning, and decision?making.
Value-add of system-wide evaluation
System?wide evaluation provides independent evidence to support oversight, accountability and decision?making across the Â鶹APP development system.

Governing and legislative bodies, in their oversight, decision?making and direction?setting roles for the UN development system;
Â鶹APP development system leadership, to inform strategy, policy, programme design and planning at global, regional and country levels;
Member States, as they engage with the Â鶹APP to support national efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Leadership
The Executive Director, Andrea Cook, was appointed by the Secretary-General of the Â鶹APP in 2023.
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and ensures the independence, quality, and integrity of system?wide evaluations and promotes accountability, transparency and collective learning across the Â鶹APP development system.
