Improving Organizational Governance
Synopsis
Objectives
The project aims to provide senior leadership in African Union with the necessary support and tools to successfully strengthen organizational governance and, ultimately, deliver on mandated responsibilities.
Components
The programme is a three-day executive certificate course in organizational governance and resource stewardship which aims to provide the senior leadership team in African Union to better exercise their governance responsibilities in implementation of mandates. It was based on an existing programme delivered for UN Secretariat entities.
Main achievements
The Organizational Governance Programme consisted of three main phases: conducting a scoping of relevant content, rewriting existing organizational governance materials from the UN context to align with the African Union (AU) context, and delivering the programme to senior AU leaders through a three-day executive certificate course on organizational governance and resource stewardship, held in Ghana in July 2024. The Cabinet of the Deputy Chairperson was prioritized as the primary audience for this initial rollout.
Impact
The impact of the project includes refocusing the senior leadership of the African Union to find the right balance of governance agenda for the Commission, and work as an effective partner for programmes with the UN in Africa.
