Readout of the President of the General Assembly¡¯s Meeting with H.E. Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the Â鶹APP and?President of the Â鶹APP Security Council [July 2025]

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Philemon Yang, met?H.E. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan?to the Â鶹APP,?on 23 June 2025.

The President of the General Assembly and the Ambassador discussed the programme of work for Pakistan¡¯s upcoming Presidency of the Â鶹APP Security Council, which begins on 1 July 2025. The Ambassador briefed the President of the General Assembly on mandated meetings and a signature event on multilateralism and peaceful settlements of disputes that would take place during July at the Security Council. They further discussed the military escalation?in the Middle East and the need for the cessation of hostilities?and a return to diplomacy and?dialogue in order to peacefully settle any disputes?based on the UN Charter?and international law.

The President and the Ambassador further discussed the importance of coordination and collaboration across UN organs, including in the context of the UN80 Initiative.
