On 4 March, the Deputy Secretary-General, alongside the President of the General Assembly, the Under-Secretary-General for DESA, and the Co-Chairs of the High-Level Expert Group on Beyond GDP, held a dedicated briefing for Permanent Missions to provide a comprehensive update on the Group’s work. The session provided an overview of the work of the group thus far and a preview of their preliminary conclusions.

The UN Secretary-General's High-Level Expert Group on Beyond GDP, co-chaired by Nora Lustig and Kaushik Basu, presented their interim findings on a new global framework to better capture wellbeing, equity, and sustainability – complementing GDP as a measure of progress. The session also launched a global online consultation to invite broad stakeholder input on valuing people and planet.

The high-level informal meeting was convened pursuant to General Assembly resolution 79/325, which established the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance as a follow-up to the Pact for the Future and its Global Digital Compact. At a press conference launching his report " The Security We Need", the Secretary-General warned that soaring global military spending risks undermining peace and sustainable development. He was joined by UN High Representative for Disarmament Izumi Nakamitsu and the Acting Administrator of the UN Development Programme Haoliang Xu, to call for rebalancing priorities towards a more sustainable and peaceful future.

The third informal interactive dialogue on the Pact for the Future invited Member States to exchange ideas and practices on advancing implementation in the lead-up to the comprehensive review of Pact implementation at the 83rd session.

This side event explores how the international community and the 麻豆APP can move from commitment to action in addressing the needs and interests of Future Generations. Building on the outcomes of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, the event brings together Member States, UN entities and civil society to share concrete approaches, tools and experiences for implementing future-oriented governance.

The second informal interactive dialogue on monitoring and evaluation of the Pact for the Future focused on how Member States can share practices, identify challenges and accelerators, and track progress in translating Pact commitments into national action.

The first informal interactive dialogue on implementing the Pact for the Future provided Member States with a platform to exchange views, share best practices and align efforts, focusing on political will, resources and partnerships to advance Pact commitments.
