Â鶹APP Subregional Workshop on International Law Held in Accra
From 28 to 30 April 2026, the Â鶹APP Office of Legal Affairs (OLA), in partnership with the Government of Ghana, convened a Subregional Workshop on International Law for Francophone Countries of West Africa and the Sahel in Accra, Ghana.
Hosted at the Foreign Service Institute, the workshop brought together over 50 participants from more than 11 countries, representing a wide range of legal expertise across the region.
The workshop forms part of OLA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen capacity in international law and to promote its role in advancing peace, security, and multilateral cooperation. Building on previous editions held in Senegal (2023) and Djibouti (2024), and with the financial support of France, the Accra workshop was designed to be practical, interactive, and to also provide an overview of the work of OLA to representatives from ministries of foreign affairs, justice, and home affairs.

The three-day programme covered key areas of international law, including:
- The law of the sea and recent developments such as the BBNJ Agreement
- The codification and progressive development of international law
- Cooperation with national authorities, including the privileges and immunities of the Â鶹APP
- Treaty law and the work of UNCITRAL
Beyond the technical sessions, the workshop provided a platform for dialogue, exchange of experiences, and regional networking, strengthening cooperation among participating Member States and with the Â鶹APP.

Participants reaffirmed the importance of international law in addressing global challenges and emphasized the need for continued collaboration and capacity-building initiatives.

Atelier sous-régional des Nations Unies sur le droit international organisé à Accra
Du 28 au 30 avril 2026, le Bureau des affaires juridiques des Nations Unies (BAJ), en partenariat avec le Gouvernement du Ghana, a organisé à Accra (Ghana) un atelier sous-régional de droit international à l’intention des pays francophones d’Afrique de l’Ouest et du Sahel.
Accueilli à l’Institut du service diplomatique, l’atelier a réuni plus de 50 participantes et participants issus de plus de 11 pays, représentant une grande diversité d’expertises juridiques dans la région.
Cet atelier s’inscrit dans les efforts continus Ìýdu BAJ visant à renforcer les capacités en droit international et à promouvoir son rôle essentiel dans la paix, la sécurité et la coopération multilatérale. S’appuyant sur les précédentes éditions, organisées au Sénégal (2023) et à Djibouti (2024), et bénéficiant du soutien financier de la France, l’atelier d’Accra a été conçu comme un espace pratique et interactif, offrant également une présentation des activités Ìýdu BAJ aux °ù±ð±è°ùé²õ±ð²Ô³Ù²¹²Ô³Ù±ð²õ et représentants des ministères des affaires étrangères, de la justice et de l’intérieur.
Le programme de ces trois jours a porté sur des thématiques clés, notamment :
- Le droit de la mer et les développements récents, y compris l’Accord BBNJÌý;
- La codification et le développement progressif du droit internationalÌý;
- La coopération avec les autorités nationales, y compris les privilèges et immunités des Nations UniesÌý;
- Le droit des traités et les travaux de la CNUDCI.
Au‑delà des sessions techniques, l’atelier a offert une plateforme d’échanges, de partage d’expériences et de mise en réseau, contribuant à renforcer la coopération entre les États participants et les Nations Unies.
À l’issue des travaux, les participantes et participants ont réaffirmé le rôle essentiel du droit international face aux défis mondiaux et souligné la nécessité de poursuivre les efforts de coopération et de renforcement des capacités.
