The aim of this month’s Spotlight is twofold. First, we show how the IMF’s recent GDP revisions have impacted our export potential estimates for 2026 by sub-region and country. Second, we identify exports from LDCs that are likely to be negatively affected by reduced import demand in Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and Belarus, and identify alternative markets for these products. The goal of this exercise is not to encourage LDCs to divert trade from Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and Belarus. Rather, we hope to identify markets with unrealized export potential that LDCs can tap into to cushion declining import demand in Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and Belarus.
