South African forward and gender equality activist made history during the 2019 FIFA Women¡¯s World Cup by scoring her country¡¯s first ever goal in the tournament and secured South Africa¡¯s first ever World Cup victory by scoring the game-winning goal against Italy in a tight 3-2 match. She was named the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations Player for the Tournament, and was the tournament¡¯s highest goal scorer. She also earned CAF African Women¡¯s Footballer of the Year, and CAF African Goal of the Year in 2018.
Thembi is also the founder of The Thembi Kgatlana Foundation that has been working endlessly for almost 10 years to provide girls and boys with a variety of resources including new soccer boots to keep playing, sanitary products to limit the amount of days young girls miss school and donated food to families in need during the holiday seasons in Cape Town.
