As Sudan marks more than 1,000 days of brutal conflict this month, what has become the world¡¯s largest hunger and displacement crisis shows no signs of abating. This comes as the Âé¶¹APP World Food Programme (WFP) is struggling to keep life-saving emergency operations running.

Nearly one in three people has been displaced in Sudan, either internally or across borders, over the past one thousand days since the outbreak of the conflict¡ªa crisis that has devastated lives, uprooted communities, and triggered the largest displacement emergency in the world. On average, five displacement-triggering events have occurred every week over this period, resulting in widespread displacement.

Today marks 1,000 days since the start of the war in Sudan, with civilians continuing to bear the brunt of a conflict they did not choose. Nearly 34 million people ¨C or some two-thirds of the population ¨C now need humanitarian assistance, making this the world¡¯s largest humanitarian crisis. It is also the largest displacement crisis. Food security conditions are catastrophic. The health system is close to collapse.

Today, the conflict in Sudan reaches its 1000th day, with over 20 million people requiring health assistance and 21 million desperately needing food. Nearly three years of continuous violence, severe access constraints, and reduced funding have turned Sudan into the worst humanitarian crisis globally. An estimated 33.7 million people will need humanitarian aid this year.

Since fighting erupted in April 2023, Sudan has become one of the largest and most devastating humanitarian crises in the world, pushing millions of children to the brink of survival. A profound protection crisis with widespread violations of international law by parties to the conflict, exacerbated by a lack of humanitarian access, has deepened with each of the 1,000 days of agony that have passed.
