Excellencies,<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen,<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is symbolic that we meet in Cairo, a city of deep history and regional\u00a0and international\u00a0importance, to speak about Jerusalem.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A city of faith and spirit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A city of memory and meaning.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A city sacred to three monotheistic religions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A city that should unite hearts, not divide people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jerusalem is not only a place on a map.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a heritage and a responsibility.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For Muslims, Christians and Jews, Jerusalem carries prayers, history and hope.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Its streets hold centuries of faith.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Its walls carry the weight of generations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Its Holy Sites belong to the conscience of humanity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And yet today, Jerusalem stands at the frontline of displacement and annexation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The situation in occupied East Jerusalem remains deeply alarming.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Palestinian families continue to face eviction.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Homes continue to be demolished.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Communities continue to be pressured.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Illegal settlements continue to expand.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These are not isolated acts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They are part of a wider pattern.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A home is demolished. A family is displaced.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A neighbourhood is changed. A city is reshaped.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Step by step.\u00a0Street by street.\u00a0House by house.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is how annexation advances.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not only through declarations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But through daily realities:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through permits denied.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through residency revoked.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through land confiscated.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through settlements built.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through fear imposed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen,<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We must call things by their name.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Israeli settlements in the\u00a0Occupied\u00a0Palestinian\u00a0Territory, including East Jerusalem, are illegal under international law.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They undermine peace.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They fragment land.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They deepen mistrust.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They threaten the viability of the two-State solution.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And in Jerusalem, their impact is particularly dangerous.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because Jerusalem is not an ordinary city.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What happens there does not remain there.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A provocation in Jerusalem echoes far beyond its walls.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A restriction in Jerusalem wounds far beyond one community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A change to its status risks igniting tensions across the region and beyond.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is why the historic and legal status quo at the Holy Sites must be preserved.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not weakened.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not reinterpreted.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not changed by force.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque\/Al-Haram Al-Sharif must be respected.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Christian Holy Sites must be protected.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The rights of all religious communities must be upheld.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Freedom of worship is not a favour.\u00a0It is a right!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Access to holy places is not a privilege.\u00a0It is a duty to protect!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

No worshipper should be stopped because of who they are.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

No religious leader should be prevented from fulfilling\u00a0their\u00a0sacred role.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

No community should feel that its faith is being pushed out of its own city.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jerusalem\u2019s religious character must not be used as a tool of control.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It must remain a bridge\u00a0connecting people\u00a0from the three major faiths.\u00a0A meeting point.\u00a0A shared responsibility.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet we continue to hear of restrictions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Restrictions on movement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Restrictions on worship.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Restrictions on access.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Restrictions that fall heavily on Palestinian\u00a0people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We also see increasing\u00a0Jewish-Israeli\u00a0settler violence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Violence against people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Violence against property.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Violence against olive trees, churches, mosques, homes and schools.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Violence against daily life itself.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This violence is not only physical.\u00a0It is\u00a0also\u00a0psychological.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It tells families that they are not safe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u00a0warns\u00a0communities that they are not wanted.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It tells a people that their presence is temporary.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But the Palestinian presence in Jerusalem is not temporary.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is historic.\u00a0It is rooted.\u00a0It is living.\u00a0It is legitimate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The people of Jerusalem are not visitors in their city.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They are its residents.\u00a0Its guardians.\u00a0Its memory.\u00a0Its future.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Their rights must be protected.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dignity must be respected.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resilience must be supported.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen,<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The question of Jerusalem is central to the question of Palestine.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And the question of Palestine is central to peace in the Middle East.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There can be no just and lasting peace without Jerusalem.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There can be no peaceful Jerusalem without justice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And there can be no justice while occupation, settlement expansion and displacement continue.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Peace cannot be built on demolitions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Peace cannot be built on exclusion.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Peace cannot be built by changing facts on the ground and asking the world to accept them later.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Peace requires courage,\u00a0law,\u00a0equality\u00a0and\u00a0respect.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The international community has a responsibility to keep alive the vision\u00a0and the goal\u00a0of two States, living side by side in peace and security, on the basis of the pre-1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not only a political position.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a moral obligation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen,<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, from Cairo, we must send a clear message:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jerusalem must not be a city of fear.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It must be a city of faith.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jerusalem must not be a symbol of dispossession.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It must be a symbol of coexistence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jerusalem must not be divided by walls of mistrust.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It must be protected by bridges of respect.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our\u00a0Committee will continue to stand for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We will continue to defend international law.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We will continue to remind the world that Jerusalem is key.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Key to peace.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Key to justice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Key to coexistence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And if Jerusalem is treated with wisdom, it can still become what it was always meant to be:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not a frontline of conflict.\u00a0But a doorway to peace.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
