In the\u00a0Occupied Palestinian Territory, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, led diplomats representing\u00a011\u00a0Member States on a field visit to the West Bank to witness the humanitarian impact of demolitions, displacement, water access restrictions and settler violence\u00a0and the response.<\/p>\n
This area \u2013 and\u00a0the rest of the West Bank \u2013 has seen a rise in settler violence\u00a0and forcible\u00a0displacement.<\/p>\n
OCHA reports that the\u00a0delegation\u00a0met affected Palestinians in two communities of the northern Jordan Valley \u2013 Ein\u00a0el\u00a0Beida\u00a0and Al\u00a0Hadidiya. The delegation also visited Hammamat al Maleh, which is one of 45 communities that have been displaced in full since 2023 due to settler violence and access restrictions. More than 60 per cent of the displacement linked to settler attacks and related access restrictions this year has occurred in the\u00a0Jordan Valley.<\/p>\n
The delegation\u00a0visited\u00a0homes\u00a0that were\u00a0abandoned\u00a0when people were forcibly displaced, a demolished school that\u00a0had been built with\u00a0donor\u00a0funding, and water springs that have been taken over by Israeli settlers. They heard testimonies from Palestinian herders facing repeated attacks,\u00a0demolitions\u00a0and restrictions on access to grazing land.<\/p>\n
Dr. Alakbarov called for solidarity and partnership to support the people whose lives, way of living and livelihoods are at risk.\u00a0He\u00a0stressed the importance\u00a0of\u00a0helping\u00a0vulnerable people stay in their own areas and the need for accountability for violence,\u00a0demolitions\u00a0and illegal use of natural resources.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in Gaza,\u00a0humanitarian partners leading on safety report multiple incidents of airstrikes, shelling, navy\u00a0fire\u00a0and gunshots hitting residential areas. This\u00a0reportedly resulted\u00a0in casualties over the weekend.\u00a0The UN and humanitarian partners remind all parties that civilians and civilian facilities must always be protected.<\/p>\n
Partners working on water and sanitation say raw sewage has flooded neighbourhoods in Khan Younis, following power failures linked to the shortage of lubricating oil for pumping station generators. This is compounding already severe public health and environmental risks. Partners stress that essential supplies \u2013 including engine oil and spare parts \u2013 must be allowed into Gaza urgently, as more critical facilities, including wells and desalination plants, are at risk of failing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
