OCHA reports that\u00a0the UN and its partners\u00a0today visited\u00a0four displacement sites in eastern\u00a0Gaza\u00a0city,\u00a0where about 600 families are\u00a0exposed to harsh conditions and heightened risks.<\/p>\n
They found that\u00a0people\u00a0are sheltering in overcrowded tents and heavily damaged buildings, with no alternative\u00a0arrangements\u00a0in\u00a0sight. They have very limited access to clean water and\u00a0sanitation services are virtually\u00a0non\u2011existent,\u00a0with\u00a0solid waste\u00a0remaining\u00a0untreated.\u00a0Rodents\u00a0and insects\u00a0are\u00a0everywhere,\u00a0increasing the risk of contracting\u00a0skin diseases, among other\u00a0health risks.<\/p>\n
The teams\u00a0identified scaling up clean\u00a0water,\u00a0sanitation\u00a0and hygiene\u00a0support; providing shelter and other essential items; expanding food and health services; and strengthening education to support those families.<\/p>\n
Humanitarian partners report that\u00a0with few days to earn a living, children\u00a0are venturing closer\u00a0to\u00a0high-risk\u00a0areas\u00a0where Israeli troops\u00a0remain\u00a0deployed to collect and sell materials.<\/p>\n
OCHA and\u00a0its humanitarian\u00a0partners\u00a0say\u00a0that security incidents continue to restrict humanitarian access and the delivery of services in\u00a0many areas, including the ones visited today, while emergency medical services\u00a0remain\u00a0largely unavailable.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s\u00a0visit brought together UN and NGO teams leading efforts in food security, health, shelter, protection, explosive ordnance\u00a0management and humanitarian coordination. Their findings will\u00a0shape\u00a0how the humanitarian sector can better support families.<\/p>\n
In the West Bank,\u00a0humanitarians leading on\u00a0water and sanitation\u00a0say\u00a0services are constrained by settler violence, movement restrictions,\u00a0demolitions\u00a0and infrastructure damage.\u00a0These conditions continue to disrupt people\u2019s access to water sources, damage networks and storage, and increase reliance on\u00a0water trucking and other short-term measures.<\/p>\n
So far in 2026, Israeli settlers have vandalized more than 60 structures used for water or sanitation \u2013 affecting more than 30 Palestinian communities.<\/p>\n
In March, ten partners supported\u00a0nearly 30,000\u00a0displaced and other people across more than 70 communities by delivering water by trucks, fixing\u00a0cisterns\u00a0and distributing hundreds of water tanks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
