  {"id":316714,"date":"2026-04-07T11:56:02","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:56:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=316714"},"modified":"2026-04-23T17:04:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:04:21","slug":"ocha-who-suspends-medical-evacuations-following-security-incident","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/ocha-who-suspends-medical-evacuations-following-security-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"OCHA: WHO suspends medical evacuations following security incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7 April 2026<\/p>\n<p>OCHA says that partners in Gaza continue to respond to people\u2019s needs in the face of persistent impediments and risks.<\/p>\n<p>The Director-General of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/security-incident-in-gaza-kills-who-contracted-worker-evacuations-halted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confirmed<\/a>\u00a0that a person contracted to provide services to WHO was killed yesterday, while two staff members who were present were not injured.<\/p>\n<p>In a social media post, Dr. Tedros\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/security-incident-in-gaza-kills-who-contracted-worker-evacuations-halted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a>\u00a0that WHO suspended the medical evacuation of patients from Gaza through Rafah to Egypt until further notice, noting that the incident is under investigation by the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Tedros called for the protection of civilians, including humanitarian workers, and shared that peace is the best medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, colleagues working on mine action report that last week, they carried out nearly 70 assessments of explosive hazards to support debris removal and humanitarian operations by UN agencies and NGOs across the Gaza Strip. They also reached nearly 12,000 people with information on the risks posed by explosive ordnance.
