{"id":302912,"date":"2024-10-30T17:01:06","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T21:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=302912"},"modified":"2024-10-30T17:01:06","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T21:01:06","slug":"statement-of-the-pga-on-unrwa-30oct24","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/statement-of-the-pga-on-unrwa-30oct24\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Statement by the President of the General Assembly Philemon Yang on Israeli legislation on UNRWA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>30 October 2024<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Press Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am deeply alarmed by the Israeli Parliament\u2019s adoption of two laws which, if implemented, will prevent the Â鶹APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from undertaking its essential work in Gaza and in the occupied West Bank including East Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>UNRWA, an agency directly established and mandated by the Â鶹APP General Assembly in its resolution 302 (IV) of 18 December 1949, plays a critical role in providing protection, shelter, food, water, and medical care to millions of Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria.<\/p>\n<p>A collapse of UNRWA operations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as a result of these two laws would exacerbate an already catastrophic humanitarian situation.
