The article suggests these actions are unfolding deliberately as global attention is primarily focused on the war in Gaza.<\/li>\n<li>On 17 December, the <a href=\"https:\/\/pchrgaza.org\/en\/civilians-trapped-under-the-rubble-medical-and-rescue-teams-denied-access-to-iof-deployed-areas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Palestinian Centre for Human Rights<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mezan.org\/public\/en\/post\/46334\/Civilians-trapped-under-the-rubble:-medical-and-rescue-teams-denied-access-to-IOF-deployed-areas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Mezan Center for Human Rights<\/a>, and other human rights organizations issued a joint press release expressing concern that civilians were trapped under the rubble in Gaza, while medical and rescue teams were being denied access to areas where the Israeli occupying forces were deployed.<\/li>\n<li>On 17 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/al-shabaka.org\/roundtables\/palestine-solidarity-crackdown-challenges-in-the-us-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Shabaka<\/a> published an interview titled \u201cPalestine Solidarity Crackdown: Challenges in the US and Europe,\u201d with Layla Kattermann of the European Legal Support Center and Diala Shamas of the Center for Constitutional Rights.<\/li>\n<li>On 14 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dci-palestine.org\/year_in_review_israeli_forces_carry_out_genocide_against_palestinian_children\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Defence for Children International- Palestine<\/a> published its year-in-review report, titled \u201cIsraeli forces carry out genocide against Palestinian children.\u201d The report states that at least 7,870 Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza since 7 October 2023, with thousands more reported missing under the rubble, most of whom are presumed dead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Asia and Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 20 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2023\/12\/urgently-investigate-inhumane-treatment-and-enforced-disappearance-of-palestinians-detainees-from-gaza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amnesty International<\/a> called for an urgent investigation into the inhumane treatment and enforced disappearance of Palestinian detainees from Gaza. Its concerns were heightened by recent images of dozens of Palestinian men being detained without clothing in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza.<\/li>\n<li>On 15 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france-palestine.org\/Des-francais-es-sont-engage-es-dans-l-armee-israelienne-qui-commet-des-crimes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Association France Palestine Solidarit\u00e9<\/a> issued a press release (in French) denouncing the fact that some 4,185 French nationals were serving in the Israeli army committing war crimes in Gaza. The press release called for French nationals (including dual nationals) implicated in war crimes to be brought before the French justice system.<\/li>\n<li>On 12 December, the <a href=\"https:\/\/prc.org.uk\/en\/post\/4575\/prc-hosts-return-week-iv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Palestinian Return Centre<\/a> held a panel discussion as part of its annual \u201cReturn Week,\u201d which is an annual commemoration to mark the anniversary of UN Resolution 194 which grants Palestinian refugees the right of return. Panelists included academics, activists and experts based in England, Canada, and Ireland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 4 January 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/peoplesforum.org\/events\/collective-struggle-of-bangladesh-palestine-past-present-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The People\u2019s Forum<\/a> will hold an event titled \u201cCollective Struggle of Bangladesh and Palestine: Past, Present, Future,\u201d which will examine the intertwined histories of Bangladeshi and Palestinian resistance.<\/li>\n<li>On 20 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2023\/12\/20\/joint-ngo-letter-secretary-austin-urging-action-protect-civilians-gaza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Human Rights Watch<\/a> and other civil society organizations wrote a letter to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III requesting urgent steps be taken to protect civilians in Gaza, urging him to refrain from transferring explosive weapons for use in Gaza and to withhold US assistance that would facilitate violations of international humanitarian law.<\/li>\n<li>On 19 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/events\/global-actors-in-the-war-in-israel-and-gaza\/?utm_campaign=Events%3A%20COMM&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=286879203&amp;utm_source=hs_email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Brookings Institution<\/a> held a virtual event titled \u201cGlobal actors in the war in Israel and Gaza\u201d with experts on the foreign policies of key global actors to analyze the international aspects of the Middle East crisis.<\/li>\n<li>On 18 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org\/2023\/12\/18\/wire-8-bridges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jewish Voice for Peace<\/a> reported that on 14 December, the eighth night of Hanukkah, its members had shut down eight bridges and highways in eight cities across the US to demand \u201can end to the genocide of Palestinians.\u201d The activists carried giant menorahs and blocked traffic for several hours, carrying signs with messages such as \u201cLet Gaza live.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Â鶹APP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 19 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/291776-2-dec19-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process<\/a> Tor Wennesland, gave a briefing to the Security Council, expressing concern over the deteriorating situation in Gaza on all fronts. He also expressed concern over the wider impacts of the war and the risk for escalation in the region.<\/li>\n<li>On 19 December, the <a href=\"https:\/\/press.un.org\/en\/2023\/ga12575.doc.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General Assembly<\/a> took up the report on \u201cPermanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources\u201d (document <a href=\"https:\/\/documents-dds-ny.un.org\/doc\/UNDOC\/GEN\/N23\/379\/57\/PDF\/N2337957.pdf?OpenElement\">A\/78\/467<\/a>), and adopted the related resolution.<\/li>\n<li>On 19 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/unicef-geneva-palais-briefing-note-gaza-the-worlds-most-dangerous-place-to-be-a-child\/\">UNICEF<\/a> Spokesperson James Elder gave a press briefing and noted that the Gaza Strip is the most dangerous place in the world to be a child. He also expressed concern that so-called \u201csafe zones\u201d in Gaza were anything but safe as there is a lack of water, sanitation, food and protection.<\/li>\n<li>On 17 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/who-delivers-health-supplies-to-al-shifa-hospital-appeals-for-continued-access-to-address-urgent-needs-in-north-gaza\/\">WHO<\/a> issued a press release on the joint mission to Al-Shifa Hospital in north Gaza it undertook with OCHA, UNDSS, and UNMAS to deliver health supplies and assess the situation in the facility. The team described the emergency department as a \u201cbloodbath\u201d, with new patients arriving every minute.<\/li>\n<li>On 14 December, a group of Special Rapporteurs, Independent Experts and Working Groups issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/un-experts-call-for-permanent-ceasefire-to-protect-rights-and-futures-of-women-and-girls-dec14-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> expressing concern with the situation of women and girls in the occupied Palestinian territory and Israel, and calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.<\/li>\n<li>On 14 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/killings-of-journalists-and-their-family-members-in-gaza-dec14-2023\/\">OHCHR<\/a> issued a press release expressing alarm over the unprecedented number of journalists and media workers who have been killed in Gaza since 7 October. The press release notes that according to the International Federation of Journalists, 73 per cent of journalists and media workers killed globally so far in 2023 have been in Gaza.<\/li>\n<li>On 13 December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/remarks-of-unrwa-commissioner-general-philippe-lazzarini-at-the-global-refugee-forum-dec13-2023\/\">UNRWA<\/a> Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini provided remarks at the Global Refugee Forum. He described the dire situation in Gaza as \u201ca living hell.\u201d He also called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and an end to the siege in order to provide meaningful humanitarian assistance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scroll down for the .PDF file.
