The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO ACTION NEWS<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>03 March 2017<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a statement issued on 2 March, the Palestinian Human Rights Organizations Council (PHROC) condemned as excessively lenient the 18-month sentence handed down to Israeli soldier Elor Azaria, convicted of manslaughter for the killing of a 21-year old wounded Palestinian.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 3 March, UK-based <a href=\"https:\/\/webmail05.un.org\/mail\/npalesti.nsf?OpenDatabase\">Medical Aid for Palestinians<\/a> (MAP) called on supporters to continue raising concerns about the blockade of Gaza with MPs in order to draw attention to the denial of permits to parents of children undergoing treatment at hospitals in East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 11 March, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.womeninfilm.ca\/cgi\/page.cgi?_id=700&amp;_cms=1#Trip%20Along%20Exodus\">Vancouver International Women in Film Festival<\/a> will present the movie \u201cTrip Along Exodus\u201d followed by a discussion with Hind Shoufani, the film director. The film tells the story of her father, Dr. Elias Shoufani, who in the early 1970s left his academic career in the United States to join the PLO in Beirut.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Throughout March, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mecaforpeace.org\/events\/direct-palestine-shoruq-debka-hip-hop-us-tour\">Middle East Children\u2019s Alliance<\/a> is sponsoring a Dabke and Hip-Hop tour of the Shoruq children\u2019s group from Dheisheh refugee camps near Bethlehem in the U.S. The tour will include performances in California, Georgia, Ohio, Connecticut and New Jersey.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 3 March, the Washington-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejerusalemfund.org\/events\/upcoming\/recent-bds-developments-anti-bds-legislation-mla\">Jerusalem Fund<\/a> hosted a talk on \u201cRecent BDS Developments\u201d with Maria LaHood, Deputy Legal Director of the Centre for Constitutional Rights, and Dr. Stephen Sheehi, Director of Asian and Middle East Studies at the College of William and Mary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>From 1 March through 16 April, <a href=\"http:\/\/cmep.org\/lights\">Churches for Middle East Peace<\/a> is conducting in partnership with the Rebuilding Alliance a campaign to raise awareness about the electricity crisis in Gaza and to bring light to Gaza.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Australia<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 8 April, the Australian Friends of Palestine Association (AFOPA) is hosting in Adelaide a cooking demonstration by Palestinian Chef Laila El-Haddad, co-author of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trybooking.com\/book\/event?eid=263594\">The Gaza Kitchen<\/a>: A Palestinian Culinary Journey\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Â鶹APP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 17 March, the UN Palestinian Rights Committee will organize an interactive briefing by Hanan Ashrawi, member of the Executive Committee of the PLO, as a side event during the \u00a0Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). It will be held from 11:00 &#8211; 13:00 in the Trusteeship Council Chamber of the UN Headquarters in New York. The <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdCYOvad2YfNbu-XCQP4KKH0AUmOUSITAZsXaIjEYKQUtaUQw\/viewform?c=0&amp;w=1\">RSVP<\/a> and registration deadline is 14 March 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 16 March, the Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine \u00a0is holding a CSW side event during the \u00a0\u00a0regarding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/csw\/csw61-2017\/side-events\/calendar-of-side-events\"><em>&#8220;Palestinian Women&#8217;s Economic Reality&#8221;<\/em><\/a>.
