The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO ACTION NEWS<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>9 June 2017<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Fifty Years of Occupation (1967-2017)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Global<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a 5<sup>th<\/sup> June statement undersigned by several member organizations, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fidh.org\/en\/region\/north-africa-middle-east\/israel-palestine\/50th-anniversary-of-israel-s-military-occupation-of-palestine\">International Federation of Human Rights<\/a> set out the position of human rights organizations on the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of Israel\u2019s military occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, asserting that the roots of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict go beyond the start of Israel\u2019s military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967 and may be traced back to 1948.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2017\/06\/states-must-ban-israeli-settlement-products-to-help-end-half-a-century-of-violations-against-palestinians\/\">Amnesty International<\/a> launched a new campaign (\u201cIsrael\u2019s Occupation: Fifty Years of Dispossession\u201d) calling on governments to ban settlement goods and prevent companies from operating in Israeli settlements or trading in settlement goods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2017\/06\/04\/israel-50-years-occupation-abuses\">Human Rights Watch<\/a> called for ramping up pressure for accountability on all sides (\u201cIsrael: 50 Years of Occupation Abuses\u201d) on 4 June.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icrc.org\/en\/document\/fifty-years-occupation-where-do-we-go-here\">International Committee of the Red Cross<\/a> published an article entitled \u201cFifty years of occupation: Where do we go from here?\u201d on 2 June, considering the recognition and application of international humanitarian law (IHL) as one of the keys to the solution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 1 June, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paxchristi.net\/\">Pax Christi International<\/a> issued a press release calling for \u201ca renewed commitment to end the violence and to reach a just and sustainable solution for Israelis and Palestinians in accordance with international law\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 9 June, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/targets\/third-party-states\/1120-international-community-must-act-to-end-the-occupation\">Al Haq<\/a> and other Palestinian human rights organizations issued a joint statement calling on the international community to act to end the occupation.<strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>During a speaking tour in Europe the first week of June, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.btselem.org\/press_releases\/20170601_resolute_international_action_needed\">B\u2019Tselem<\/a> demanded resolute international action to end the occupation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a statement entitled \u201cA capitulation of Israeli and Palestinian leadership\u201d, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrc.no\/news\/2017\/june\/a-capitulation-of-israeli-and-palestinian-leadership\/\">Norwegian Refugee Council<\/a> warned on 6 June that \u201cunless the ongoing injustices against Palestinian civilians are addressed there can be no meaningful peace process\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.map.org.uk\/news\/archive\/post\/672-press-release-urgent-accountability-needed-to-prevent-another-half-century-of-occupation\">Medical Aid for Palestinians<\/a> issued a press release entitled \u201cUrgent accountability needed to prevent another half-century of occupation\u201d. MAP also issued a statement entitled \u201cA decade of blockade and closure: Gaza\u2019s patients at risk\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.map.org.uk\/news\/archive\/post\/675-a-decade-of-blockade-and-closure-gazaas-patients-at-risk?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=How%20can%20a%20new%20UK%20government%20support%20Palestinian%20health%20and%20dignity&amp;utm_content=How%20can%20a%20new%20UK%20government%20support%20Palestinian%20health%20and%20dignity+CID_1a15e487b3e7482492eab14758112f0a&amp;utm_source=Email%20marketing%20software&amp;utm_term=Read%20more\">9 June<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uscpr.org\/campaigns\/50actions\/\">The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights<\/a> is holding a Week of Action from 5-10 June with events across the United States.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 8 June, Defence for Children International \u2013 Palestine spoke at a Congressional briefing in Washington D.C. on 50 Years of Occupation and Life for Palestinian Children.<strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaiusa.org\/resources_of_the_50th_anniversary_of_the_occupation\">Arab American Institute<\/a> issued a statement on June 5 to mark 50 years of the Israeli occupation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/necefsabeel.ca\/sabeel-statement-on-50-years-of-occupation\/\">Canadian Friends of Sabeel<\/a> released a statement entitled \u201cHalf a Century of Occupation \u2013 What Next?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/canadianlabour.ca\/news\/news-archive\/clc-statement-israel-palestine\">Canadian Labour Congress<\/a> published a statement to mark the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Six-Day War and the Israeli occupation on June 5.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Â鶹APP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 13 June, Professor Michael Lynk, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.map.org.uk\/news\/archive\/post\/661-michael-lynk-un-special-rapporteur-for-human-rights-in-the-occupied-palestinian-territory-in-conversation-with-sir-geoffrey-bindman-qc\">UN Special Rapporteur<\/a> on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, will participate in London in a discussion on accountability after 50 years of occupation. The event will be hosted by Medical Aid for Palestinians, Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights and Amnesty International UK.<strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Noting that from a humanitarian perspective, 50 years of occupation represent a gross failure of leadership, on 6 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ochaopt.org\/content\/statement-un-coordinator-humanitarian-aid-and-development-activities-robert-piper-50th\">UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Development<\/a> Robert Piper stated that \u201ctoo many innocent civilians \u2013 Palestinian and Israeli alike \u2013 are paying for this abject failure to address the underlying causes of the world\u2019s longest-running protection crisis.\u201d<strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/statement\/2017-06-05\/statement-secretary-general-occasion-anniversary-1967-arab-israeli\">UN Secretary-General<\/a> Ant\u00f3nio Guterres released a statement to mark the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the 1967 Arab-Israeli War and the occupation of the Palestinian Territory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; This newsletter informs about recent and upcoming activities of Civil Society Organizations affiliated with the Â鶹APP Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
