The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO ACTION NEWS<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>13 October 2017<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Global<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 October, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnestyusa.org\/urgent-actions\/urgent-action-update-palestinian-womens-union-leader-released-israelopt-ua-187-17\/\">Amnesty International<\/a> re-issued an Urgent Action calling for the release of Palestinian parliamentarian and civil society leader Khalida Jarrar, unless charged with an internationally recognized criminal offence. The organization also reiterated its call for an end to the practice of administrative detention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 8 October, the 2017 two-week <em>Journey for Peace<\/em> organized by <a href=\"http:\/\/womenwagepeace.org.il\/en\/\">Women Wage Peace<\/a> ended with a rally in Jerusalem. The event was attended by thousands of Israelis and Palestinians calling for negotiations with the participation of women and a peace agreement. For background information about Women Wage Peace, see the interview conducted by <a href=\"http:\/\/myemail.constantcontact.com\/Anat-Saragusti-on-Women-Wage-Peace.html?soid=1123518022899&amp;aid=RFWL1m-C7wo\">American Jewish Peace Archive<\/a> with Anat Saragusti, one of the leaders of the movement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 6 November, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mecaforpeace.org\/event\/save-the-date-dr-mustafa-barghouti-direct-from-palestine\/\">Middle East Children\u2019s Alliance<\/a> (MECA) is hosting in Berkeley, California, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative <em>Al Mubadara<\/em> for a talk on <em>\u201c100 Years after the Balfour Declaration: The Anti-Colonial Struggle in Palestine\u201d<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 24 October, independent analyst Mouin Rabbani will hold at <a href=\"https:\/\/meis.gmu.edu\/events\/7060\">George Mason University<\/a> the Middle East and Islamic Studies annual lecture<em>\u201cPalestine: Anatomy of an Abyss\u201d<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Churches for Middle Peace (CMEP) will be hosting conversations with Daoud Nassar from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tentofnations.org\/\">Tent of Nations<\/a> about life in Palestine, human rights and peacebuilding in <a href=\"http:\/\/org2.salsalabs.com\/o\/5575\/t\/0\/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=1402539\">Washington, D.C.<\/a> on 16-17 October;<a href=\"http:\/\/org2.salsalabs.com\/o\/5575\/t\/0\/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=1401989\"> Seattle, Washington<\/a>, on 18-20 October; and in <a href=\"http:\/\/org2.salsalabs.com\/o\/5575\/t\/0\/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=1401998\">North Carolina<\/a>, on 21-22 October.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 11 October, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/cases\/koontz-v-watson-challenge-kansas-law-targeting-boycotts-israel\">American Civil Liberties Union<\/a> (ACLU) filed a complaint arguing that a Kansas law requiring all state contractors to certify that they are not boycotting Israel violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. In an article published in the New York Times the same day, Dima Khalidi, director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2017\/10\/11\/us\/ap-us-kansas-israel-boycott.html?_r=0\">Palestine Legal<\/a>, stated that the lawsuit was a \u201creally important step to make sure that our right to dissent is protected\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 17 November, <a href=\"https:\/\/ijv.org.uk\/2017\/10\/09\/independent-jewish-voices-100-years-after-balfour\/\">Independent Jewish Voices<\/a> is inviting to a screening of its \u201c<em>100 Years of Balfour<\/em>\u201d at the Birkbeck Institute for the Moving Image in London. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 October, the independent media and research centre <a href=\"https:\/\/danwatch.dk\/en\/pension-fund-blacklists-four-companies-after-danwatch-investigation\/\">Danwatch<\/a> reported that, following the publication of its <a href=\"https:\/\/old.danwatch.dk\/en\/undersogelse\/businessonoccupiedterritory\/\">investigations<\/a> \u201c<em>Business on Occupied Territory<\/em>\u201d in January 2017, Denmark\u2019s third largest pension fund (<u>Sampension<\/u>) had revised its investment guidelines and divested from four companies operating in illegal Israeli settlements.<u>\u00a0<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Âé¶¹APP<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 2 November, the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/\">CEIRPP<\/a>) will host a lecture on the Balfour Declaration and its impact on the Palestinian people, delivered by Prof. Rashid Khalidi, Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University in New York.
