The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO Action News<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>26 January 2018<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Global<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From 30 June to 8 July, the <a href=\"http:\/\/jai-pal.org\/index.php\/en\/?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=42:invitation-jfj2018&amp;catid=171&amp;Itemid=213\"><u>YMCA in East Jerusalem<\/u><\/a> is inviting young people from all over the world to participate in a <em>\u201cJourney for Justice\u201d<\/em> in Palestine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/inclo.net\/pdf\/gaining-ground.pdf\"><u>The International Network of Civil Liberties Organizations (INCLO)<\/u>,<\/a> of which the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) is a member, has released a report on <em>\u201cGaining Ground: A Framework for Developing Strategies and Tactics in response to Governmental Attacks on NGOs\u201d.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 25 January, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/topics\/palestinian-violations\/1176-al-haqs-comments-on-the-draft-law-by-decree-amending-the-law-by-decree-on-cybercrimes\"><u>Al Haq<\/u><\/a> published its comments on the Draft Amendment to the Palestinian Cybercrimes Decree Law, in a bid to ensure consistency between domestic and international law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 19 January, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.badil.org\/en\/publication\/press-releases\/87-2018\/4842-pr-en-190118-01.html\"><u>BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency &amp; Refugee Rights<\/u><\/a> called for a more strategic approach to address the current funding crisis facing UNRWA. On 10 January, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mezan.org\/en\/post\/22284\/The+Humanitarian+Implications+of+a+Possible+UNRWA+Funding+Reduction\"><u>Al Mezan<\/u><\/a> had expressed deep concern about the humanitarian implications of reducing funding for UNRWA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mitvim.org.il\/images\/Guiding_principles_for_a_new_Israeli_foreign_policy_paradigm_-_Mitvim_Institute.pdf\"><u>MITVIM-The Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies<\/u><\/a> has released a paper with guiding principles for a new Israeli foreign policy paradigm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In a meeting with Director of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the <a href=\"http:\/\/pchrgaza.org\/en\/?p=10324\"><u>Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR)<\/u><\/a> addressed the latest developments in Palestine following the US decision to reduce funding to UNRWA and its serious social, economic and political impact. The Swiss agency expressed its concern and commitment along with European partners to improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza and empower civil society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/org2.salsalabs.com\/o\/5575\/p\/dia\/action4\/common\/public\/?action_KEY=25794\"><u>Churches for Middle East Peace<\/u><\/a> is calling for action to ask the US Congress to protect aid delivered by UNRWA to Palestine refugees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 30 January, the Center for Palestine Studies at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palestine.mei.columbia.edu\/cps-events-spring-2018\/2018\/1\/30\/gaza-martyrdom-betrayal\"><u>Columbia University<\/u><\/a> in New York will host author and scholar Norman Finkelstein for a talk on his new book <em>\u201cGaza: An Inquest into its Martyrdom\u201d<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 23 January, <a href=\"https:\/\/al-shabaka.org\/focuses\/focus-on-when-does-it-become-apartheid\/\"><u>Al Shabaka \u2013 The Palestinian Policy Network<\/u><\/a> published contributions by different experts related to the theme <em>\u201cFocus On: When Does It Become Apartheid?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Latin America<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Under the umbrella of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.federacionpalestina.cl\/noticia.php?id=3244\"><u>Confederaci\u00f3n Palestina de Am\u00e9rica Latina y el Caribe (COPLAC)<\/u><\/a>, representatives of Palestinian diaspora communities in Brasil, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama and Venezuela travelled to Amman to discuss with the PLO and civil society organizations the role of diaspora in efforts to achieve Palestinian self-determination. Among others, agreements were made to strengthen exchange programmes targeting youth.<strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 6 February, the <a href=\"https:\/\/prc.org.uk\/en\/post\/3803\/invitation-to-our-next-parliament-meeting-palestine-and-ireland-on-feb-6th\"><u>Palestinian Return Center<\/u><\/a> (PRC) in London is inviting to a meeting on Palestine and Ireland, hosted by MP Mickey Brady.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 30 January, the <a href=\"http:\/\/iremmo.org\/rencontres\/midis\/permis-de-critiquer-israel\/\"><u>Institut de Recherche et d\u2019\u00c9tudes M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e Moyen-Orient (iReMMO)<\/u><\/a> is hosting in Paris a discussion with Pascal Boniface, director of the French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS), and journalist Dominique Vidal on criticism of Israeli policies and anti-Semitism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Âé¶¹APP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 February, the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will hold its first meeting of the year at UN Headquarters in New York.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 25 January, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/apps\/news\/story.asp?NewsID=58481#.WmtL802GPct\"><u>UN Security Council<\/u><\/a> held its quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian question. The briefing delivered by <a href=\"https:\/\/unsco.unmissions.org\/sites\/default\/files\/security_council_briefing_-_25_january_2018.pdf\"><u>Nickolay Mladenov<\/u><\/a>, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, is available online.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 23 January, Israel\u2019s human rights record was assessed in Geneva under the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/HRBodies\/UPR\/Pages\/BasicFacts.aspx\"><u>Universal Periodic Review (UPR)<\/u><\/a> mechanism of the UN Human Rights Council.
