The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO Action News<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>23 February 2018<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 20 February, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pij.org\/current.php?id=94\">Palestine-Israel Journal<\/a> published an issue focusing on <em>\u201cJerusalem: The Key to Peace\u201d<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 19 February, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gisha.org\/UserFiles\/File\/LegalDocuments\/10_Years_10_Judgments_EN_Web.pdf\">Gisha<\/a> released the report <em>\u201c10 Years \/ 10 Judgements\u201d<\/em>, presenting an analysis of ten key judgments concerning the rights of Gaza residents and the role courts played in shaping Israel\u2019s policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palmuseum.org\/news-1\/the-palestinian-museum-announces-the-commencement-of-its-digital-archive-project-\">Palestinian Museum<\/a> announced on 18 February the commencement of its first Digital Archive project. The latter seeks to create an open-access platform documenting Palestinian history from 1800 to present. The project has been developed in partnership with UCLA and is sponsored by the Arcadia Fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 18 February, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altro.co.il\/newsletters\/show\/10680?key=78ff439c64a778a26cb69fe4e8355076&amp;value=ac566ec4480155c282ab9e4bf108ec809c5dd89d:1261228\">Ir Amin<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/peacenow.org.il\/en\/jerusalem-municipality-opens-spring-israelis\">Peace Now<\/a> reported the construction of a new checkpoint in the area of Al-Walaja isolating completely a Palestinian village and blocking its residents from access to a local spring while improving connections with illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank outside Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 14 February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onevoicemovement.org\/news\/view\/update-from-palestine-zimams-annual-report\">OneVoice<\/a> published the annual report of Zimam, its partner organization in Palestine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0On 22 February, <a href=\"https:\/\/religionnews.com\/2018\/02\/22\/evangelicals-deeply-concerned-about-u-s-recognition-of-jerusalem-as-capital-of-israel\/\">Evangelical Christians<\/a> in the United States expressed deep concern about US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 22 February, Lila Abu-Lughod, Professor of Social Science at Columbia University, delivered the <a href=\"https:\/\/anthropology.princeton.edu\/events\/clifford-geertz-commemorative-lecture-settler-colonialism-observed-palestines-alter-natives\">Clifford Geertz Commemorative Lecture at Princeton University<\/a> under the theme <em>\u201cSettler Colonialism Observed: Palestine\u2019s Alter-natives\u201d<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 18 February, <a href=\"https:\/\/al-shabaka.org\/memos\/israels-latest-attempts-alter-geopolitical-realities-jerusalem\/?utm_source=Al-Shabaka+announcements&amp;utm_campaign=ec7e45e160-AbuZarifa_Commentary_Nov2017&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_a9ca5175dc-ec7e45e160-416241681\">Al-Shabaka<\/a> published a policy memo on the latest developments of Jerusalem\u2019s geopolitical reality by examining bills submitted to the Knesset, analyzing their implications and providing recommendations to Palestinians and the international community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Latin America<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chile\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.federacionpalestina.cl\/noticia.php?id=3383\">Fundaci\u00f3n Palestina Belen 2000<\/a> is calling on friends to participate in the Santiago Marathon on 8 April, running for Palestinian children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Asia<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 12 February, several <a href=\"http:\/\/indianculturalforum.in\/2018\/02\/12\/womens-organisations-freedom-for-ahed-tamimi\/\">Indian women\u2019s organizations<\/a> representing well over ten million members signed a letter calling for the immediate release of 17-year-old Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Â鶹APP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 20 February, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/NewsEvents\/Pages\/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=22675&amp;LangID=E\">UN Special Rapporteur on Torture<\/a> Nils Melzer expressed utmost concern about a December 2017 ruling by Israel\u2019s Supreme Court exempting security agents from criminal investigation despite their undisputed use of coercive \u201cpressure techniques\u201d against a Palestinian detainee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 22 February, in relation to his January <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/NewsEvents\/Pages\/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=22617&amp;LangID=E\">report on a database of business enterprises<\/a> involved in specific settlement-related activities, 33 international, regional and Palestinian organizations sent a Joint Open Letter to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/\">UN High Commissioner for Human Rights<\/a>, setting out follow-up recommendations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>To support Gaza\u2019s collapsing health system, with consequences for 1.27 million people, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emro.who.int\/images\/stories\/palestine\/WHO_Donor_Alert_Gaza_20_February_2018_final__.pdf?ua=1_________________________________________________\">WHO<\/a> and health partners urgently require US$ 11.2 million to fill priority health needs for three months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; This newsletter informs about recent and upcoming activities of Civil Society Organizations affiliated with the Â鶹APP Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
