The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO Action News<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>02 March 2018<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Global<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 22 February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/countries\/middle-east-and-north-africa\/palestine-state-of\/report-palestine-state-of\/\">Amnesty International<\/a> published its 2017\/18 report on the State of Palestine. The report documents human rights violations including restrictions on the freedoms of movement, expression and assembly, as well as torture and ill-treatment by Palestinian authorities and Hamas \u201cde facto administration\u201d in Gaza and West Bank.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 1<sup>st<\/sup> March, <a href=\"https:\/\/onestatefoundation.org\/\">One State Foundation<\/a> issued a press release on a new Palestinian-Israeli initiative to \u201cgrow debate and support for a one state solution.\u201d The One State Foundation acknowledges the one state reality that has been in place for over 50 years and aims to have \u201cthis reality\u201d transformed to one in which all people living under the control of the same state have the same civil, political and socio-economic rights and opportunities regardless of their ethnicity or religion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 28 February, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/topics\/palestinian-violations\/1191-civil-society-organizations-to-form-a-fact-finding-committee-on-the-question-of-palestinian-judiciary-http:\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/topics\/palestinian-violations\/1191-civil-society-organizations-to-form-a-fact-finding-committee-on-the-question-of-palestinian-judiciary-\">Al Haq<\/a> issued a statement signed by several other civil society organizations, which calls for the establishment of a fact-finding committee on the question of Palestinian judiciary system. This followed remarks by Judge Abdallah Ghazlan, the oldest presiding judge in the Palestinian High Court, in which he criticized the lack of autonomy in the judicial process and procedural flaws in case adjudication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 28 February, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.badil.org\/en\/publication\/press-releases\/87-2018\/4849-pr-en-280118-04.htmlhttp:\/www.badil.org\/en\/publication\/press-releases\/87-2018\/4849-pr-en-280118-04.html\">Badil<\/a> released a joint statement on the threat posed by the Israeli occupation to the Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and the \u201cdeliberate violation of [their] status quo\u201d. The statement criticizes Israel\u2019s recent policies and measures to ensure the \u201cJudaization\u201d of Jerusalem, including the revocation and denial of Palestinians residency status, access to civil registration, house demolitions and discriminatory planning and zoning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 28 February, <a href=\"https:\/\/reliefweb.int\/report\/occupied-palestinian-territory\/education-above-all-eaa-foundation-undp-and-unicef-open-first\">Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, UNDP and UNICEF<\/a> opened the first ever \u201cChild Friendly School\u201d in Gaza, built out of the ruins of a school destroyed in the 2014 war. Serving 800 students, this school has been re-built with multipurpose buildings and flexible learning spaces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 26 February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeastmonitor.com\/20180226-over-40-of-graves-in-west-bank-settlements-dug-on-private-palestinian-land\/\">Kerem Navot<\/a> NGO released a new report on settlers\u2019 cemeteries in the West Bank. The study documents the presence of some 600 graves in or near ten West Bank settlements that were built on privately owned Palestinian land; or on lands expropriated for security reasons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 23 February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.map.org.uk\/news\/archive\/post\/798-maps-impact-developing-surgical-skills-in-gaza\">Medical Aid for Palestine<\/a> reported the conclusion of a surgical training programme for medical residents from Gaza. The training aims at improving local surgeon residents\u2019 techniques and material. MAP also reported on the difficulty found to train the residents outside Gaza and to bring surgical material into the city.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 20 March, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gsd.harvard.edu\/event\/suad-amiry-reclaiming-space-riwaqs-50-village-project-in-rural-palestine\/\">Harvard University Graduate School of Design<\/a> is hosting Suad Amiry, architect and founder of RIWAQ \u2013 a center for the preservation of architectural heritage on the West Bank \u2013, for a talk on <em>\u201c<\/em>Reclaiming Space: Riwaq\u2019s 50 Village Project in Rural Palestine.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 March, <a href=\"http:\/\/masspeaceaction.org\/event\/ilan-pappe-zionism-and-the-creation-of-the-biggest-prison-on-earth\/\">The Boston Coalition for Palestinian Rights<\/a> is organizing a talk with Ilan Pappe, professor and activist, who taught at the University of Haifa for two decades and is now a professor and director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies at the University of Essex, UK. Pappe will present his new book \u201cZionism and the Creation of the Biggest Prison on Earth\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 4 and 8 March, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonpalestinefilmfest.org\/2018\/02\/annemarie-jacirs-wajib-screens-at-mfa-in-early-march\/\">Boston Palestine Film Festival<\/a> is screening the Palestinian movie \u201cWajib\u201d by Annemarie Jacir at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The movie was nominated for best foreign language film to the Oscars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 2 March, <a href=\"http:\/\/israellobbyandamericanpolicy.org\/\">Washington Report on Middle East Affairs and the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy (IRmep)<\/a> held a conference on \u201cIsrael Lobby and American Policy in 2018\u201d in Washington, D.C. The conference brought scholars, journalists, former government officials and activists to discuss the impact of Israeli lobby on U.S. foreign policy and in Israel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 27 February, <a href=\"http:\/\/org2.salsalabs.com\/o\/5575\/t\/0\/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=1411145\">Churches for Middle East Peace<\/a> issued a press release on \u201cThe Future of the Christian Church in the Holy Land in Peril\u201d in solidarity with the Christian community in Jerusalem. The statement is based on the Jerusalem municipality\u2019s recent decision to collect taxes on church properties that are not used as places of worship. The decision was deemed \u201ccontrary to the historic position of Churches within the Holy City of Jerusalem and their relationship with civil authorities.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Âé¶¹APP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 27 February, The European Union (EU) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrwa.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/european-union-and-unrwa-reaffirm-strong-commitment-serving-palestine\">Âé¶¹APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)<\/a> held a Strategic Dialogue on the way forward for their partnership. The discussion took place in light of the current financial crisis facing UNRWA and the need to broaden its donor base and continue reforming the Agency.
