The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Â鶹APP Committee on the Exercise of the<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO Action News<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>10 August 2018<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 August, the <a href=\"https:\/\/pchrgaza.org\/en\/?p=11219\">Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR)<\/a> issued a press release to denounce Israel\u2019s deliberate targeting of civilian property and the destruction of Al-Mishal Cultural Centre and the wounding of twenty civilians in Gaza City. PCHR stressed that the attack was a \u201cserious violation of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Declaration,\u201d and the provisions of international humanitarian law dealing with the protection of cultural property in times of war and occupation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 9 August, <a href=\"http:\/\/gisha.org\/updates\/9406\">Gisha- Legal Centre for Freedom of Movement<\/a> issued a statement to express its concern with the escalation of hostilities impacting civilians in both Gaza and southern Israel. Gisha reiterated that deliberate or indiscriminate fire on civilian population centres was a grave violation of international law. The NGO denounced the \u201cmassive bombardment of the Gaza Strip\u201d which led to the death and injury of civilians and caused damage to water and sewage facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 9 August, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mezan.org\/en\/post\/23145\/Israeli+Forces+Attacks+on+Gaza+Kill+Three+Palestinians+and+Injure18+\">Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights<\/a> condemned the Israeli military\u2019s targeting of civilians and their properties, and \u201cthe unnecessary harm and trauma caused to the population in Gaza.\u201d Al Mezan spoke of the recent restrictions on the movement of goods and in the permitted fishing zone; and warned against any further escalation in hostilities, as it could lead to full-scale military bombardment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 9 August, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/topics\/gaza\/1293-iof-kills-six-palestinians-in-the-gaza-strip-injures-hundreds-as-the-great-return-march-continues\">Al-Haq<\/a> strongly condemned the Israeli Forces\u2019 continued suppression of the Great March of Return and warned against Israel\u2019s \u201cpersistent, deliberate, unnecessary, indiscriminate and disproportionate\u201d use of force against Palestinian protestors in Gaza. The continued killing of peaceful protestors constitutes clear violations of Israel\u2019s obligations under ICCPR and amounts to the war crime of wilful killing and individual criminal responsibility at the International Criminal Court (ICC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 6 August, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acri.org.il\/en\/2018\/08\/06\/warning-conversations-at-ben-gurion-international-airport\/\">The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI)<\/a> issued a press release to denounce the detention of workers in civil society organizations at Ben Gurion Airport while returning from abroad. ACRI explained that Shin Bet had resumed its practice of summoning human rights activists to \u201cwarning conversations.\u201d The NGO petitioned earlier the Supreme Court, challenging the authority of Shin Bet, and wrote on 31 July to the Petitions Department of the State Attorney\u2019s Office concerning the recent incidents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 6 August, the UK-based <a href=\"https:\/\/prc.org.uk\/en\/post\/3908\/new-report-unrwa-s-social-assistance-poverty-reduction-approaches-the-case-of-gazan-refugees-in-jordan\">Palestinian Return Centre (PRC)<\/a> issued a new report on \u201cUNRWA\u2019s social assistance and poverty reduction approaches- the case of Gazan refugees in Jordan\u201d. The study provides an overview of the Gazan refugees\u2019 living conditions and an assessment of UNRWA\u2019s medium-term strategies to alleviate poverty among Palestinian refugee families in its fields of operation, particularly the Social Safety Net Program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Â鶹APP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 August, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrwa.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/unrwa-conclude-its-youth-summer-camp-titled-%E2%80%9Cmy-identity-my-dignity%E2%80%9D\">UNRWA<\/a> concluded its 2018 children\u2019s summer camp implemented by the Agency\u2019s community health, family and child protection programmes. It was conducted across the West Bank under the title of \u201cMy Identity is my Dignity\u201d. Eighteen summer camps for refugee children were organized by UNRWA seeking to build youth confidence and leadership skills and to help encourage a spirit of volunteerism in Palestine refugee communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 8 August, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ochaopt.org\/content\/entry-emergency-fuel-urgently-needed-avoid-closure-hospitals-and-overflow-sewage-gaza\">Humanitarian Coordinator Jamie McGoldrick<\/a> called on the Israeli authorities to immediately allow the entry of UN-purchased emergency fuel into the Gaza strip to avoid closure of hospitals and overflow of sewage in Gaza streets.
