(PNIPH)\u00a0Workshops:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>during the months of September and October the Palestinian National Institute for Public\u00a0Health, an on-going WHO project,\u00a0conducted three\u00a0educational\u00a0workshops\u00a0in Gaza\u00a0on Robson Ten Group of classification System\u00a0(TGCS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The workshops aimed\u00a0 at\u00a0improving\u00a0the quality of maternal health services during and beyond\u00a0the\u00a0COVID-19 pandemic\u00a0 through\u00a0providing\u00a0orientation\u00a0and Training of Trainers (TOT)\u00a0to\u00a0maternal health providers on\u00a0the\u00a0adoption\u00a0of\u00a0TGCS\u00a0for appropriate use of caesarean section.<\/p>\n<p class=\"size-14\" lang=\"x-size-14\"><span class=\"font-open-sans\">The\u00a0activities\u00a0targeted\u00a0thirty\u00a0maternity senior\u00a0experts and\u00a0Hospital\u00a0Managers\u00a0along with fifty-five\u00a0obstetricians, midwives and maternity supervisors\u00a0at the Ministry of Health\u00a0(MoH)\u00a0resulting in\u00a0an\u00a0agreement\u00a0to\u00a0mainstream\u00a0TGCS in all maternity services<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>WHO preparedness, readiness and response<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>WHO continues to work closely with partners to support Ministry of Health\u2019s (MoH) efforts to respond to the COVID-19\u00a0outbreak.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Coordination,\u202fplanning\u202fand monitoring\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The state of emergency over COVID-19 decreed by President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank\u00a0continues in place.<\/li>\n<li>Medical staff and priority groups such as elderly and sick are to receive the third \u2018booster\u2019 dose, while universities must vaccinate up to 70% of administrative and academic staff for the school year to continue<\/li>\n<li>The Health Cluster\u00a0conducted two workshops, in Gaza and West Bank,\u00a0to support partners in writing\u00a0their\u00a0health\u00a0project proposals\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a02022\u00a0Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP).\u00a0The workshops also focused on\u00a0mainstreaming cross-cutting issues such as gender, protection against sexual exploitation and abuse,\u00a0accountability to affected populations,\u00a0and disability. A total of 72 persons have participated in the workshops, representing 47 UN, International and National organizations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains high, with 23,318 active COVID-19 cases across the oPt. Infections in the Gaza Strip still account for the majority of all cases, at 75.2%.<\/li>\n<li>In the West Bank, numbers of cases are slowing down, and are now at 5,766. Positivity dropped to 7.31% from 12.7% a fortnight ago.<\/li>\n<li>The overall Case Fatality Rate (CFR) across oPt remains at 1%. The CFR is the proportion of deaths among identified confirmed cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Laboratory testing and diagnostics<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The number of tests conducted in the oPt is largely unchanged during the\u00a0first week of\u00a0October, with 43,664\u00a0tests conducted, and an overall positivity of\u00a018%.<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, testing has decreased, with an average of 3,380 tests per day\u00a0over the past two weeks, while\u00a0positivity remains rather high at an average of 31%.<\/li>\n<li>As part of its ongoing efforts in maintaining access to essential COVID-19 testing in the Gaza Strip,\u00a0WHO procured and delivered 60,000 viral collection swabs and\u00a047,500 antigen rapid detection tests\u00a0(Ag-RDTs),\u00a0which allow rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2 in suspected cases presenting with symptoms.
