The Â鶹APP provides these documents only as a convenience for reference purposes, and the inclusion of a document does not imply the endorsement of its content by the Â鶹APP.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><strong>Brussels, 15\/11\/2020 &#8211; 14:58, UNIQUE ID: 201115_1<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>I am deeply worried by the Israeli authorities\u2019 decision to open the bidding process for the construction of housing units for an entirely new settlement at Givat Hamatos.<\/p>\n<p>This is a key location between Jerusalem and Bethlehem\u00a0in the occupied West Bank.\u00a0Any settlement construction will cause serious damage\u00a0to the prospects for a viable and contiguous Palestinian State and, more broadly, to the possibility of a negotiated two-state solution in line with the internationally agreed parameters and with Jerusalem as the future capital of two states.<\/p>\n<p>The EU has repeatedly called on Israel to end all settlement activity, and to dismantle outposts erected since March 2001.\u00a0It remains the EU\u2019s firm position that settlements are illegal under international law.<\/p>\n<p>The announced settlement activity will lead to the continuing weakening of efforts\u00a0to rebuild trust and confidence between the parties which is necessary for an eventual resumption of meaningful negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>The Government of Israel should instead show vision and responsibility and reverse these negative decisions at this critical and sensitive time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a non-Â鶹APP document.
