Palestinian Authority has\u00a0extended the\u00a0movement restrictions from\u00a08\u00a0July\u00a0for a further\u00a0five days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>WHO preparedness, readiness and response<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>WHO is continuing to work with partners to support Ministry of Health\u2019s (MoH) efforts to respond to the COVID-19 situation in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).<\/p>\n<p>Below are our Key Performance Indicators for our COVID-19 response:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload gnd-corner-image \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Coordination,\u202fplanning\u202fand monitoring<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The suspension of bilateral agreements and coordination in response to Israel\u2019s threatened annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank continues to impact access to essential services outside for referral patients as well as the import and customs clearance of essential medical equipment and supply shipments.\u00a0The\u00a0Humanitarian Coordinator and\u00a0key partners\u00a0are working to\u00a0address the clearance of humanitarian shipments and coordinate exit of urgent\u00a0medical referral\u00a0cases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high for the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt)<\/li>\n<li>The total number of cases in oPt is\u202f5,829\u00a0including\u00a05,757\u00a0cases in the West Bank and\u202f72\u202fin the\u00a0Gaza Strip, no new cases reported\u00a0in\u00a0Gaza in the same period<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0number of\u00a0people testing\u00a0positive for SARS-CoV-2\u00a0continues to\u00a0increase<\/li>\n<li>Since 1 July (to 9 July) the West Bank\u00a0(including East Jerusalem)\u00a0has averaged 383 cases per day in July, with 3,064 new\u00a0cases\u00a0and\u00a016\u00a0fatalities<\/li>\n<li>Most cases recorded\u00a0are\u00a0from\u00a0Hebron (4,027) East Jerusalem (609), Jerusalem (281), Bethlehem (20), Nablus (210) and Ramallah (157).\u00a0Other governorates (Salfit,\u00a0Qalqiliya, Tubas,\u00a0Tulkarm, Jenin) continue to record low case numbers.\u00a0A total of 14\u00a0health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>Twenty-three\u00a0patients are in a\u00a0serious\u00a0condition, with three patients requiring\u00a0mechanical\u00a0ventilation\u00a0(as of\u00a09\u00a0July)<\/li>\n<li>The Prime Minister\u2019s office extended the lockdown from\u00a08 July for five more\u00a0days allowing only pharmacies, bakeries and supermarkets to open;\u00a0factories and banks\u00a0are exempt\u00a0with safety measures;\u00a0movement of goods allowed within governorates<\/li>\n<li>The Palestinian Authority warned those\u00a0who violate the safety measures are subjected to fines, closure of their commercial establishments and detention.<\/li>\n<li>Cases are expected to continue to rise in\u00a0hot spots and most affected communities\u00a0due to challenges related to:\u00a0staff shortages impacting contact tracing and follow up of mild cases in home isolation;\u00a0 supply\u00a0gaps affecting infection protection control and case management, including local shortages of personal protective equipment for frontline health workers;\u00a0the need for\u00a0public health protection measures like physical distancing and hygiene measures\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0adhered to; difficulty complying with home isolation for mild and moderate cases due to over-crowded living conditions<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported a total of 699\u00a0cases have recovered:\u00a0639\u00a0in the West Bank (including 174 in East Jerusalem) and\u00a060\u00a0in Gaza.\u00a0Twenty-five\u00a0people have died,\u00a0with an overall case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.42%<\/li>\n<li>Less than\u00a0half (47%) of all confirmed cases are male (1,927\u00a0cases) and about 83% of all cases (3,063\u202fcases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laboratory diagnostics <\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A total of\u00a0128,797\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 according to the\u202fMoH,\u00a0with 13,025\u00a0samples tested in the Gaza Strip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management, Operations Support and Logistics \u200b<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>19,255 Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) to prevent further spread of the disease<\/li>\n<li>In Gaza,\u202f311\u202fpeople are in one of the seven\u00a0operational quarantine facilities which include health facilities,\u202fhotels or other designated buildings<\/li>\n<li>In continuation of their partnership to strengthen local capacities in responding to COVID-19, WHO supported MDM-France in conducting the following activities during the reporting period:\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 July, a training was organized for 14\u00a0MoH\u00a0officials\u00a0in Gaza Strip, to strengthen their knowledge on operational policies of\u00a0Respiratory\u00a0Triage\u00a0Center (RTC)<\/li>\n<li>From 6- 8 July,\u00a040 participants from MOH attended practical training\u00a0and\u00a0a simulation\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 at the\u00a0RTC\u00a0near Al-Aqsa Hospital to\u00a0strengthen\u00a0their\u00a0capacity\u00a0to deal with and manage COVID-19 suspected cases\u00a0in safe and effective manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div>As of July 9\u202f(14:00), the\u202fPalestinian Authority\u2019s Ministry of Health reported 609 COVID-19 cases in East Jerusalem. Three deaths have been reported (CFR- 0.49%) and 174 have recovered in the same period.<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Health Cluster update<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/who.createsend1.com\/t\/j-l-qhjhdly-l-y\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload gnd-corner-image gnd-corner-image-center gnd-corner-image-top\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i4.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/58\/341\/7B2\/234925\/csfinal\/HCBulletin-99014503cf028a3c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em>Click on the image to read the Health Cluster&#8217;s latest Bulletin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>The Health\u00a0Cluster held a meeting chaired\u00a0by WHO and co-chaired\u00a0by\u00a0the Palestinian\u00a0Authority\u2019s\u00a0\u00a0Minister\u00a0of Health\u00a0Dr. Mai Al-Kaila on 8 July. Partners discussed the operational needs in the West Bank with\u00a0a\u00a0focus on\u00a0the\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0challenges\u00a0in Hebron, Bethlehem and\u00a0Nablus.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0MoH\u00a0presented the emerging immediate needs for the most affected governorates alongside the revised\u00a0strategy\u00a0to address case management\u00a0of COVID-19 cases. The\u00a0MoH\u00a0also called upon UNRWA and NGOs to provide support\u00a0to\u00a0effectively control the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mental Health and Psychosocial\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Support (MHPSS)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Strengthened human resources capacity and more essential supplies to manage the outbreak have been identified as priority needs by the Health Cluster:<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Laboratory testing items: the MoH is scaling up its capacity and is currently conducting up to 5,000 COVID-19 PCR tests daily; but needs for testing is up to 150,000 tests per month until the end of 2020<\/li>\n<li>Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) items for frontline health workers: despite substantial supplies of PPE items delivered, there remain shortages, especially in the West Bank governorates severely hit by the outbreak and in the Gaza Strip;
