In the West Bank, most cases are from East Jerusalem (179), Jerusalem Governorate (140), followed by\u00a0Hebron (78)\u00a0Ramallah (77)\u00a0and\u00a0Bethlehem (59).\u00a0A total of 11 health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported a total of\u00a0483\u00a0cases have recovered:\u00a0465\u00a0in West Bank\u00a0(including\u00a0118\u00a0in East Jerusalem) and\u00a018\u00a0in\u00a0Gaza\u00a0and five\u00a0people have died in the oPt:\u00a0case\u00a0fatality rate\u00a0(CFR) is 0.81%<\/li>\n<li>About\u00a0two-thirds (64%) of all confirmed cases are male (279\u00a0cases) and about 82% of all cases (358\u00a0cases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laboratory diagnostics<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<ul>\n<li>A total of\u00a054,000\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the oPt according to the\u00a0MoH<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, health authorities are continuing to appeal for support to procure additional laboratory\u00a0testing kits. A total of\u00a09,335\u00a0samples\u00a0have\u00a0been tested, including some outside of Gaza<\/li>\n<li>With a global and local shortage of lab supplies and other medical equipment, large quantities of essential items are challenging to procure but WHO is working to try and address this to support oPt\u2019s COVID-19 response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management and Operations support and logistics<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the\u00a0MoH, more than 19,374\u00a0Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) for monitoring of their symptoms and ensuring early detection of cases<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip,\u00a0one death and\u00a031\u00a0new\u00a0confirmed\u00a0cases\u00a0were\u00a0reported\u00a0in the past week, raising the\u00a0total\u00a0number of confirmed cases to 61.\u00a0A\u00a0total of\u00a018\u00a0people\u00a0have\u00a0recovered from COVID-19, of which\u00a013\u00a0were discharged\u00a0home and\u00a0five\u00a0were moved\u00a0to quarantine facilities at Rafah\u00a0crossing.\u00a0Forty-two\u00a0active cases\u00a0remain\u00a0in isolation at Rafah crossing field hospital<\/li>\n<li>More than\u00a01,496\u00a0people are in one of the 14\u00a0operational quarantine facilities which include designated primary health facilities,\u00a0schools\u00a0or hotels<\/li>\n<li>Today WHO procured and delivered\u00a0a\u00a0truckload\u00a0of essential medical supplies including 10,000 Personal Protective Equipment Kits and antiseptic\u00a0to protect frontline health workers that\u00a0care for COVID-19 patients.\u00a0The delivery featured\u00a030,000 surgical masks,\u00a010,000 N95 masks,\u00a05,000 coveralls,\u00a06,000 face shields,\u00a03,700 goggles and\u00a05,000 (500ml) containers of alcogel.\u00a0These essential items will allow health workers to do their jobs safely and with confidence, free from the fear of infection<\/li>\n<li>This delivery was made possible\u00a0with the\u00a0generous support\u00a0of the Government of Kuwait which has provided\u00a0substantial funding for\u00a0the COVID-19 response in Palestine. This funding will continue to provide the\u00a0Ministry of Health\u2019s facilities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip with medical equipment and disposables, in line with the Palestinian Authority\u2019s National COVID-19 response plan<\/li>\n<li>WHO\u00a0and UNICEF continue to scale up procurement efforts to mobilize life-saving essential Intensive Care Unit and ventilator equipment\u00a0locally and\u00a0through global supply\u00a0mechanisms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>As of May\u00a027,\u00a02020\u00a0(10:00\u00a0am), the\u00a0Palestinian Authority\u2019s Ministry of Health reported 179\u00a0COVID-19 cases in East Jerusalem. Two deaths have\u00a0been\u00a0reported\u00a0(CFR-\u00a01.1%)\u00a0and\u00a0118\u00a0recovered in the same period<\/li>\n<li>A reduction of referrals to\u00a0East Jerusalem Hospitals had\u00a0a great impact\u00a0on the hospitals\u2019 operational\u00a0capacity\u00a0and financial situation.\u00a0The\u00a0St Johns Eye\u00a0Hospital\u00a0in particular\u00a0experienced\u00a0a dramatic drop in the number of patients at its\u00a0four\u00a0facilities in East Jerusalem,\u00a0West Bank and Gaza since the lockdown\u00a0due to\u00a0fewer\u00a0referrals\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0MoH.\u00a0More than 18,000 patients\u00a0missed their scheduled medical appointments for examination and clinical treatment\u00a0and over 1,200 major sight-saving surgeries\u00a0were cancelled. This\u00a0translated into\u00a0a significant service-provision backlog, both for the hospital and for\u00a0the\u00a0MoH,\u00a0as well as\u00a0total losses of about\u00a0US\u00a0$1.5 million\u00a0and\u00a0up to this point\u00a0and an\u00a0estimated end-of year loss\u00a0of\u00a0estimated\u00a0US\u00a0$4\u00a0million assuming gradual return to\u00a0a\u00a0normal situation\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0coming months.\u00a0The hospital has launched a fundraising\u00a0campaign to address the current\u00a0shortfalls<\/li>\n<li>To maintain continuity of\u00a0specialized\u00a0services\u00a0by the East Jerusalem\u00a0hospitals, including ophthalmic\u00a0services, it is important to continue\u00a0financial\u00a0support\u00a0to the\u00a0East Jerusalem hospitals to continue\u00a0and sustain\u00a0their operations<\/li>\n<li>In supporting the response to the COVID-19 crisis, WHO is coordinating with the East Jerusalem Hospitals\u00a0Network (EJHN)\u00a0to address the health needs of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, focusing on provision of technical guidance, risk communication and community engagement to disseminate public health advice for prevention of COVID-19 and advocacy with donors to fund the priority needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Health Access<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Palestinian patients continue to face barriers to accessing healthcare despite a sharp decline in referrals and patient permit applications during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the West Bank, most cases are from East Jerusalem (179), Jerusalem Governorate (140), followed by\u00a0Hebron (78)\u00a0Ramallah (77)\u00a0and\u00a0Bethlehem (59).\u00a0A total of 11 health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported a total of\u00a0483\u00a0cases have recovered:\u00a0465\u00a0in West Bank\u00a0(including\u00a0118\u00a0in East Jerusalem) and\u00a018\u00a0in\u00a0Gaza\u00a0and five\u00a0people have died in the oPt:\u00a0case\u00a0fatality rate\u00a0(CFR) is 0.81%<\/li>\n<li>About\u00a0two-thirds (64%) of all confirmed cases are male (279\u00a0cases) and about 82% of all cases (358\u00a0cases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laboratory diagnostics<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<ul>\n<li>A total of\u00a054,000\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the oPt according to the\u00a0MoH<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, health authorities are continuing to appeal for support to procure additional laboratory\u00a0testing kits. A total of\u00a09,335\u00a0samples\u00a0have\u00a0been tested, including some outside of Gaza<\/li>\n<li>With a global and local shortage of lab supplies and other medical equipment, large quantities of essential items are challenging to procure but WHO is working to try and address this to support oPt\u2019s COVID-19 response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management and Operations support and logistics<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<ul>\n<li>According to the\u00a0MoH, more than 19,374\u00a0Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) for monitoring of their symptoms and ensuring early detection of cases<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip,\u00a0one death and\u00a031\u00a0new\u00a0confirmed\u00a0cases\u00a0were\u00a0reported\u00a0in the past week, raising the\u00a0total\u00a0number of confirmed cases to 61.\u00a0A\u00a0total of\u00a018\u00a0people\u00a0have\u00a0recovered from COVID-19, of which\u00a013\u00a0were discharged\u00a0home and\u00a0five\u00a0were moved\u00a0to quarantine facilities at Rafah\u00a0crossing.\u00a0Forty-two\u00a0active cases\u00a0remain\u00a0in isolation at Rafah crossing field hospital<\/li>\n<li>More than\u00a01,496\u00a0people are in one of the 14\u00a0operational quarantine facilities which include designated primary health facilities,\u00a0schools\u00a0or hotels<\/li>\n<li>Today WHO procured and delivered\u00a0a\u00a0truckload\u00a0of essential medical supplies including 10,000 Personal Protective Equipment Kits and antiseptic\u00a0to protect frontline health workers that\u00a0care for COVID-19 patients.\u00a0The delivery featured\u00a030,000 surgical masks,\u00a010,000 N95 masks,\u00a05,000 coveralls,\u00a06,000 face shields,\u00a03,700 goggles and\u00a05,000 (500ml) containers of alcogel.\u00a0These essential items will allow health workers to do their jobs safely and with confidence, free from the fear of infection<\/li>\n<li>This delivery was made possible\u00a0with the\u00a0generous support\u00a0of the Government of Kuwait which has provided\u00a0substantial funding for\u00a0the COVID-19 response in Palestine. This funding will continue to provide the\u00a0Ministry of Health\u2019s facilities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip with medical equipment and disposables, in line with the Palestinian Authority\u2019s National COVID-19 response plan<\/li>\n<li>WHO\u00a0and UNICEF continue to scale up procurement efforts to mobilize life-saving essential Intensive Care Unit and ventilator equipment\u00a0locally and\u00a0through global supply\u00a0mechanisms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>As of May\u00a027,\u00a02020\u00a0(10:00\u00a0am), the\u00a0Palestinian Authority\u2019s Ministry of Health reported 179\u00a0COVID-19 cases in East Jerusalem. Two deaths have\u00a0been\u00a0reported\u00a0(CFR-\u00a01.1%)\u00a0and\u00a0118\u00a0recovered in the same period<\/li>\n<li>A reduction of referrals to\u00a0East Jerusalem Hospitals had\u00a0a great impact\u00a0on the hospitals\u2019 operational\u00a0capacity\u00a0and financial situation.\u00a0The\u00a0St Johns Eye\u00a0Hospital\u00a0in particular\u00a0experienced\u00a0a dramatic drop in the number of patients at its\u00a0four\u00a0facilities in East Jerusalem,\u00a0West Bank and Gaza since the lockdown\u00a0due to\u00a0fewer\u00a0referrals\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0MoH.\u00a0More than 18,000 patients\u00a0missed their scheduled medical appointments for examination and clinical treatment\u00a0and over 1,200 major sight-saving surgeries\u00a0were cancelled. This\u00a0translated into\u00a0a significant service-provision backlog, both for the hospital and for\u00a0the\u00a0MoH,\u00a0as well as\u00a0total losses of about\u00a0US\u00a0$1.5 million\u00a0and\u00a0up to this point\u00a0and an\u00a0estimated end-of year loss\u00a0of\u00a0estimated\u00a0US\u00a0$4\u00a0million assuming gradual return to\u00a0a\u00a0normal situation\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0coming months.\u00a0The hospital has launched a fundraising\u00a0campaign to address the current\u00a0shortfalls<\/li>\n<li>To maintain continuity of\u00a0specialized\u00a0services\u00a0by the East Jerusalem\u00a0hospitals, including ophthalmic\u00a0services, it is important to continue\u00a0financial\u00a0support\u00a0to the\u00a0East Jerusalem hospitals to continue\u00a0and sustain\u00a0their operations<\/li>\n<li>In supporting the response to the COVID-19 crisis, WHO is coordinating with the East Jerusalem Hospitals\u00a0Network (EJHN)\u00a0to address the health needs of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, focusing on provision of technical guidance, risk communication and community engagement to disseminate public health advice for prevention of COVID-19 and advocacy with donors to fund the priority needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Health Access<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Palestinian patients continue to face barriers to accessing healthcare despite a sharp decline in referrals and patient permit applications during the COVID-19 pandemic.
