The system, as well as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/who.createsend1.com\/t\/j-l-qthdkuk-l-j\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">public-facing website<\/a>,\u00a0were officially launched\u00a0this week.\u00a0The website presents regularly updated data on the situation in Palestine, distributions of cases by age and location, and health maps.<br \/>\nData from the system is being used by the government to provide updates to the public and will be used to generate<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/who.createsend1.com\/t\/j-l-qthdkuk-l-t\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i5.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/7C\/A44\/E65\/234917\/csfinal\/COVIDScreenShotPNIPH-990000079e028a3c.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>research and reports to inform COVID-19 decisions and policies.<\/p>\n<p>More information on the system is available on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/who.createsend1.com\/t\/j-l-qthdkuk-l-i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PNIPH website<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The total number of cases in oPt is 577, including 547\u00a0cases in the West Bank and\u00a030 in the Gaza Strip. In the West Bank, most cases are from East Jerusalem (179), Jerusalem Governorate (140), followed by\u00a0Hebron (73)\u00a0Ramallah (77)\u00a0and\u00a0Bethlehem (59).\u00a0In the Gaza Strip, all confirmed cases are from Gaza City. A total of 11 health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported a total of\u00a0464\u00a0cases have recovered:\u00a0448\u00a0in West Bank, including\u00a0118\u00a0in East Jerusalem) and\u00a030\u00a0in Gaza and four people have died in the oPt: case\u00a0fatality rate\u00a0(CFR) is 0.7%<\/li>\n<li>About\u00a0two-thirds (65%) of all confirmed cases are male (262\u00a0cases) and about 81% of all cases (325\u00a0cases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laboratory diagnostics<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>A total of 45,343\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the oPt according to the\u00a0MoH<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, health authorities are continuing to appeal for support to procure additional laboratory\u00a0testing kits. A total of\u00a08,650\u00a0samples\u00a0have\u00a0been tested, including some outside of Gaza<\/li>\n<li>Some 5,788\u00a0people will benefit from COVID-19 testing in the Gaza Strip\u00a0after\u00a061\u00a0lab testing kits were delivered to local health authorities\u00a0in two deliveries (on 14 and 20 May), thanks to generous support of the oPt Humanitarian Fund\u00a0and\u00a0UK aid<\/li>\n<li>With a global and local shortage of lab supplies and other medical equipment, large quantities of essential items are challenging to procure but WHO is working to try and address this to support oPt\u2019s COVID-19 response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management and Operations support and logistics<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>According to the\u00a0MoH, more than 19,374\u00a0Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) for monitoring of their symptoms and ensuring early detection of cases<\/li>\n<li>During the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Palestinian Authority has imposed daily movement restrictions from 19:00 until early in the morning<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip,\u00a0ten\u00a0new\u00a0confirmed\u00a0cases\u00a0were\u00a0reported\u00a0in the past week,\u00a0and a total of\u00a016\u00a0people have recovered from COVID-19, out of which\u00a012\u00a0were discharged\u00a0home and\u00a0four\u00a0were moved\u00a0to quarantine facilities at Rafah\u00a0crossing.\u00a0Fourteen\u00a0active cases\u00a0remain\u00a0in isolation at Rafah crossing field hospital<\/li>\n<li>More than\u00a01,656\u00a0people are in one of the 17\u00a0operational quarantine facilities which include designated primary health facilities,\u00a0schools\u00a0or hotels<\/li>\n<li>WHO\u00a0is working in close coordination with the health authorities in Gaza to\u00a0identify\u00a0the needs of the five respiratory centers, in support of COVID-19\u00a0response<\/li>\n<li>WHO\u00a0and UNICEF continue to scale up procurement efforts to mobilize life-saving essential Intensive Care Unit and ventilator equipment through global supply\u00a0mechanisms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>As of May\u00a020,\u00a02020\u00a0(17:00), the\u00a0Palestinian Authority\u2019s Ministry of Health reported 179\u00a0COVID-19 cases in East Jerusalem with\u00a0new cases\u00a0from\u00a0Al-Thor. Two deaths have\u00a0been\u00a0reported\u00a0(CFR-\u00a01.1%)\u00a0and\u00a0118\u00a0recovered in the same period<\/li>\n<li>A reduction of referrals to\u00a0East Jerusalem Hospitals had\u00a0a great impact\u00a0on the hospitals\u2019 operational\u00a0capacity\u00a0and financial situation.\u00a0The\u00a0St Johns Eye\u00a0hospital\u00a0in particular\u00a0experienced\u00a0a dramatic drop in the number of patients at its\u00a0four\u00a0facilities in East Jerusalem,\u00a0West Bank and Gaza since the lockdown\u00a0due to\u00a0fewer\u00a0referrals\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0Ministry of Health.\u00a0More than 18,000 patients\u00a0missed their scheduled medical appointments for examination and clinical treatment\u00a0and over 1,200 major sight-saving surgeries\u00a0were cancelled.
