  {"id":235926,"date":"2020-05-14T11:59:47","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T15:59:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=235926"},"modified":"2020-06-19T15:23:04","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T19:23:04","slug":"coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-who-update-29","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-who-update-29\/","title":{"rendered":"Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) WHO Update 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_size-15\" lang=\"x-size-15\">March &#8211; 14\u00a0May\u00a02020<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><b>Highlights<\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><b><\/b>Only\u00a0one\u00a0confirmed\u00a0case reported in oPt in the past week (since\u00a08\u00a0May)<\/li>\n<li>A total of 548\u00a0COVID-19 cases in oPt: 528\u00a0in West Bank (including 173\u00a0in East Jerusalem) and 20 in Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered more lab testing kits to the Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>WHO Preparedness, readiness and response<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>WHO is continuing to work with partners to support Ministry of Health\u2019s (MoH) efforts to respond to the COVID-19 situation in the occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt).<\/p>\n<p>Below are our latest Key Performance indicators for the response:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Coordination,\u00a0planning\u00a0and monitoring\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>WHO launched the COVID-19 mobile learning\u00a0app targeted at\u00a0health\u00a0workers.\u00a0It is available in six languages and provides access to a wealth of WHO COVID-19 knowledge resources, including up-to-the-minute guidance, tools, training, and virtual workshops to support health workers in caring for patients infected by COVID-19 and to protect themselves as they do their critical work.\u00a0The app is free in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/who.cmail20.com\/t\/j-l-qtjutuk-tkhrddidhk-y\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Apple App Store<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/who.cmail20.com\/t\/j-l-qtjutuk-tkhrddidhk-j\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Google Play Store<\/a><\/li>\n<li>WHO\u00a0introduced\u00a0the\u00a0COVID-19 partners platforms:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/who.cmail20.com\/t\/j-l-qtjutuk-tkhrddidhk-t\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">www.covid-19-response.org<\/a>.\u00a0The main objective of this coordination tool is to track the progress of the COVID-19 response globally and in countries and the\u00a0required and available funding, as well as\u00a0other COVID-19 indicators\u2019 progress. All partners are encouraged to join the platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<ul>\n<li>The total number of cases in oPt is 548, including 528\u00a0cases in the West Bank and 20 in the Gaza Strip. In the West Bank, most cases are from East Jerusalem (173), Jerusalem Governorate (140), followed by Ramallah (77), Bethlehem (59) and Hebron (60). In the Gaza Strip, all confirmed cases are from Gaza City. A total of 11 health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported a total of\u00a0426\u00a0cases have recovered:\u00a0412\u00a0in West Bank, including\u00a0116\u00a0in East Jerusalem) and 14\u00a0in Gaza and four people have died in the oPt: case fatality rate (CFR) is 0.73%<\/li>\n<li>About two-thirds (65%) of all confirmed cases are male (246 cases) and about 82% of all cases (308 cases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column x_narrow\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em>WHO delivered laboratory testing supplies to<br \/>\nlocal health authorities<br \/>\no support the testing of 2,200 people for<br \/>\nCOVID-19\u00a0in the Gaza\u00a0Strip.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_column x_wide\">\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload x_gnd-corner-image x_gnd-corner-image-center x_gnd-corner-image-top x_gnd-corner-image-bottom\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/outlook.office.com\/actions\/ei?u=http%3A%2F%2Fi4.cmail20.com%2Fei%2Fj%2FD8%2FF14%2FB16%2F003654%2Fcsfinal%2FGazadelivery-38c7e201915d0c5a.jpg&amp;d=2020-05-14T15%3A11%3A34.723Z\" alt=\"\" width=\"352\" data-imageproxyid=\"\" data-imageproxyendpoint=\"\/actions\/ei\" data-connectorsauthtoken=\"1\" data-imagetype=\"External\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Laboratory diagnostics<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A total of 44,000\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the oPt according to the\u00a0MoH<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, health authorities are continuing to appeal for support to procure additional laboratory\u00a0testing kits. A total of\u00a07,264\u00a0samples\u00a0have\u00a0been tested, including some outside of Gaza<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered laboratory testing supplies to local health authorities to support the testing of 2,200 people for COVID-19.\u00a0The delivery was made possible with the generous support of the oPt Humanitarian Fund<\/li>\n<li>With a global and local shortage of lab supplies and other medical equipment, large quantities of essential items are challenging to procure but WHO is working to try and address this to support oPt\u2019s COVID-19 response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management and Operations support and logistics<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<ul>\n<li>According to the\u00a0MoH, more than 14,510\u00a0Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) for monitoring of their symptoms and ensuring early detection of cases<\/li>\n<li>During the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Palestinian Authority has imposed daily movement restrictions from 19:00 until early in the morning<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip,\u00a0no new cases reported since\u00a06 May,\u00a0and a total of\u00a014\u00a0people have recovered from COVID-19, out of which\u00a0ten\u00a0were discharged home and\u00a0four\u00a0were moved to quarantine facilities at Rafah\u00a0crossing.\u00a0Six\u00a0active confirmed cases remain in isolation at Rafah crossing field hospital<\/li>\n<li>More than\u00a01,031\u00a0people are in one of the 13\u00a0operational quarantine facilities which include designated primary health facilities, schools or hotels<\/li>\n<li>WHO and UNICEF continue to scale up procurement efforts to mobilize life-saving essential Intensive Care Unit and ventilator equipment through global supply\u00a0mechanisms.\u00a0\u202fMore essential supplies are on the way for West Bank and Gaza, with thanks to support from multiple donors including the oPt Humanitarian Fund and UK aid<\/li>\n<li>WHO supported the Ministry of Health in training\u00a030 community\u00a0volunteers\u00a0in refugee camps\u00a0in the West Bank\u00a0on infection prevention and control measures that need to be taken in\u00a0the informal\u00a0community-based\u00a0quarantine\u00a0centres\u00a0in the\u00a0camps<\/li>\n<li>WHO supported its partner MDM-France in\u00a0organising\u00a0training, including practical simulation,\u00a0for\u00a0173\u00a0staff of\u00a0five\u00a0COVID-19 respiratory centres established by the health authorities\u00a0in Gaza\u00a0on case definition, patient pathway, IPC including proper use of PPE and stress management.\u00a0\u00a0Additionally, 135 members of the Palestine Red Crescent Society\u00a0(PRCS)\u00a0Emergency Management Teams\u00a0(EMT)\u00a0were trained on\u00a0COVID-19 case definition and appropriate transportation protocols for suspected\/confirmed COVID-19 cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<ul>\n<li>As of May\u00a014, 2020\u00a0(13:00), the\u00a0Palestinian Authority\u2019s Ministry of Health reported 173\u00a0COVID-19 cases in East Jerusalem with\u00a0new case from\u00a0Al &#8211;\u00a0Thori. Two deaths have been\u00a0reported (CFR- 1.15%)\u00a0and\u00a0116\u00a0recovered in the same period<\/li>\n<li>Despite donor pledges, the EJHN hospitals are still in need of medical supplies and equipment to be fully prepared to receive COVID-19 patients.
