It also called for the safety and protection of Palestinian civilians to be ensured. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">In adopting this resolution, the Council expressed concern about the high number of deaths and injuries among Palestinian civilians and over the casualties on both sides resulting from clashes between the Israeli army and Palestinian police. It also expressed concern over developments at the Holy Places of Jerusalem. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;padding-top:10px;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Fifty speakers addressed the Council when it met yesterday to consider this recent escalation of violence. That meeting was requested in a 26 September letter from the representative of Saudi Arabia on behalf of the League of Arab States (document <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/7E2022D7C168C6E0852563B5004883DD.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">S\/1996\/790<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">).
