\t<\/span>Turning to the Middle East, Mr. Annan stressed the importance of breaking the impasse in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.  "Of course, that would require compromises and flexibility on all sides," he said.  He expressed the hope that the efforts of United States President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and the Palestinians and Israelis would yield some results.<\/p><\/div>\n
