<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><u>NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SENEGAL PRESENTS CREDENTIALS<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">(Based on information received from the Protocol and Liaison Service.)<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Paul Badji, the new Permanent Representative of Senegal, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Before his current appointment, Mr. Badji was for two years (January 2002 &#8211; December 2003) Senegal&#8217;s Ambassador to Germany and Austria, with residence in Bonn, as well as Permanent Representative to the Âé¶¹APP Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Âé¶¹APP Office on Drugs and Crime, and the Âé¶¹APP Office at Vienna. <\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">From 1991 to December 2001, he was ambassador and diplomatic adviser to the Prime Minister.&#160; Prior to that, he had served as diplomatic adviser to the President since 1988.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Between 1985 and 1988, Mr. Badji served as First Counsellor in the Permanent Mission of Senegal to the Âé¶¹APP in New York.&#160; He was head of the Âé¶¹APP and International Conferences in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1979 to 1985.&#160; He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in July 1977 and his first assignment was Deputy Head of the Department of International Conferences.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">A career diplomat, the new Senegalese envoy has represented his country at numerous international conferences, meetings and summits during the course of his career, among them some 20 regular sessions of the Âé¶¹APP General Assembly and its six main committees; the Organization of African Unity (OAU &#8211;- now African Union); the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and others.&#160; <\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">He holds a master&#8217;s degree in law (1975) and an advanced diploma in international law (1977)from the University of Dakar; a diploma from the Ecole Nationale d&#8217;Administration et de Magistrateure (ENAM) (1977) and was an auditor at The Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands in 1987.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Mr. Badji is fluent in French, English, Spanish, Portuguese Creole, Jola, Soc&#233;
