SECRETARY-GENERAL STRONGLY URGES ISRAELI AUTHORITIES<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

TO HALT DEMOLITION OF PALESTINIAN HOMES<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>The Secretary-General believes that actions such as the demolition of Palestinian homes which took place on 9 and 10 July only aggravate the already extremely tense situation in the occupied Palestinian territory.  He strongly urges the Israeli authorities to halt such activities.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>The Secretary-General reiterates his appeal to both sides to exercise maximum restraint, cease the violence and re-initiate the peace process by implementing the <\/span>Mitchell report<\/a>.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
