SecCo action endorsing Road Map &#8211; Press release"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><u>SECURITY COUNCIL ADOPTS RESOLUTION ENDORSING ROAD MAP LEADING<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><u>TOWARDS TWO-STATE RESOLUTION OF ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">The Security Council this afternoon endorsed the Middle East Quartet&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/6129B9C832FE59AB85256D43004D87FA.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">Road Map<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&nbsp;towards a permanent, two-State solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">By its unanimous adoption of resolution <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/71B2C135FCA9D78A85256DE400530107.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">1515 (2003),<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&nbsp;the Council called on the parties to fulfil their obligations under the plan in cooperation with the Quartet.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">In its preambular section, the text also reiterated the Council&#8217;s demand for an immediate cessation of all acts of violence, including all acts of terrorism, provocation, incitement and destruction.&#160; It emphasized that a just and lasting peace should take into account the Israeli-Syrian and Israeli-Lebanese tracks, as well as the Israeli-Palestinian question.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">[On 20 December 2002, the &#8220;Quartet&#8221; (Russian Federation, United States, European Union, Âé¶¹APP) reached agreement on the text of the Road Map with the goal of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ending the occupation that began in 1967.&#160; That goal was to be achieved on the basis of the 1991 Madrid peace conference, the principle of land for peace, Council resolutions <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/59210CE6D04AEF61852560C3005DA209.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">242 (1967)<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/7FB7C26FCBE80A31852560C50065F878.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">338 (1973)<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&nbsp;and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/4721362DD7BA3DEA85256B7B00536C7F.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">1397 (2002)<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">, agreements reached previously by the parties, and the &#8220;Arab Initiative&#8221; of Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah endorsed by the Council of the League of Arab States on 28 March 2002.&#160; The performance-based and goal-driven Road Map presented clear phases, time lines, target dates and benchmarks aimed at the progression by the two parties through reciprocal steps in the political, security, economic, humanitarian and institution-building fields, under the auspices of the Quartet.&#160;
