SECRETARY-GENERAL EXPRESSES HORROR AT TODAY'S CARNAGE IN JERUSALEM<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The following statement was issued today by Secretary-General Kofi Annan:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>I am shocked and horrified by  the carnage in Jerusalem today.   At least 18 innocent  lives are  lost and  over 150  people injured in  apparent twin suicide attacks.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>I express my heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Israel, and especially to the families of the victims.   And I condemn this act of  terror unreservedly, as I condemn terrorism from whatever quarter. Violence of this kind can never advance the cause of peace.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>This is a crucial time in  the quest for peace in the Middle East.  I appeal to all concerned to reject violence and  pursue their  aims through dialogue, at the negotiating table.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
