HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL NEW YORK.<\/p><\/div>\n

AT THE 23RD SITTING OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL HELD AT LONDON ON SATURDAY THE 16TH FEBRUARY 1946 FOR DISCUSSING THE QUESTION OF THE WITHDRAWAL OF FOREIGN TROOPS FROM THE SYRIAN AND LEBANESE TERRITORIES THE UNITED STATES REPRESENTATIVE PRESENTED TO THE COUNCIL THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION THE SECURITY COUNCIL TAKING NOTE OF STATEMENTS MADE BY THE FOUR PARTIES AND BY OTHER MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL EXPRESSES ITS CONFIDENCE THAT FOREIGN TROOPS IN SYRIA AND LEBANON WILL BE WITHDRAWN AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE AND THAT NEGOTIATIONS TO THAT END WILL BE UNDERTAKEN BY PARTIES WITHOUT DELAY AND REQUESTS PARTIES TO INFORM IT OF THE RESULTS OF THE NEGOTIATIONS ALTHOUGH THIS RESOLUTION HAD NO LEGAL VALIDITY IN VIEW OF PARAGRAPH 3 OF THE 27TH ARTICLE OF THE CHARTER IT GOT THE APPROVAL OF THE MAJORITY  OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL AMONG WHOM WERE THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED KINGDOM AND FRANCE WHO UNDERTOOK TO GIVE EFFECT TO IT THE SYRIAN GOVERNMENT HAVE THE HONOUR TO INFORM THE MEMBERS OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL THAT THE EVACUATION OF THE FOREIGN TROOPS TO THE SYRIAN TERRITORY IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROPOSAL OF THE DELEGATE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF APRIL 1946.<\/p><\/div>\n
