ACTIVITIES OF SECRETARY-GENERAL IN STATE OF PALESTINE, 15 AUGUST<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Â鶹APP Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Ramallah, in the State of Palestine, on the afternoon of Thursday, 15 August, on a flight from Aqaba in Jordan.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

He first met with <\/span>Rami Hamdallah<\/a>, the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Next the Secretary-General helped launch the Â鶹APP<\/span> <\/span>Development Assistance Framework<\/a> <\/span>for the State of Palestine.  (See Press Release <\/span>SG\/SM\/15220<\/a>.) <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The Secretary-General then met Issa Qaraqe, the Minister of Prisoner Affairs and representatives of civic society groups handling prisoner affairs.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Later, he took part in a meeting with Palestinian students involved in a <\/span>Model Â鶹APP<\/a>, including students from Gaza who joined by video link.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

After this the Secretary-General <\/span>visited the grave<\/a> of former President Yasser Arafat to lay a wreath.  He then met President <\/span>Mahmoud Abbas<\/a> and other <\/span>Palestinian leaders<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The Secretary-General gave a <\/span>press encounter<\/a> <\/span>with President Abbas before heading to Israel.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
