France condemns the Israeli authorities’ approval, on December 24, of the expansion of the Gilo settlement in East Jerusalem.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

France emphasizes its extreme concern over the consequences the settlement projects decided in recent weeks will have for the viability of the two-state solution, which Israel claims to support.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

We therefore once again urge the Israeli authorities to reverse all of these illegal decisions, all of which constitute so many obstacles to peace.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The current situation is untenable. 2013 must be the year of just and lasting peace in the region. That is why once again we call on the parties to immediately begin direct, substantive negotiations without preconditions.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n
