In late July, 2015, UNRWA received credible reports of an outbreak of typhoid in Yarmouk and its surrounding areas, threatening the lives and wellbeing of thousands of civilians.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#00a1e0;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>SITUATION REPORT &#8211; 19 AUGUST 2015<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226;&nbsp;&nbsp;UNRWA medical personnel established a mobile health point, treating 292 patients over the course of the day. Amongst these patients, UNRWA treated five cases of typhoid.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; UNRWA also delivered 150,000 water purification tablets to the local committee to help ensure that residents have access to clean drinking water.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; As a heat continues to affect Damascus, with temperatures topping 41&#176;C (105&#176;F), and with frequent cuts in water supplies, the risk of epidemics is extremely worrying in Yarmouk, Yalda, Babila and Beit Saham, as access to health remains heavily limited.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; UNRWA&#8217;s priority remains the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians within Yarmouk itself and reiterates its strong demand for respect and compliance with obligations to protect civilians and to establish secure conditions under which UNRWA can deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:8px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; The vulnerability of civilians in Yarmouk remains of the highest severity. UNRWA is deeply concerned that without access, the most basic humanitarian needs of Palestinian and Syrian civilians, including many children, continue to be left unmet.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:center;padding-top:10px;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27602%27%20height%3D%27451%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20602%20451%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27602%27%20height%3D%27451%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/98a6b0da322bd4d485257eb2005a2025_image1.JPG\" border=\"0\" height=\"451px\" width=\"602px\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><i>UNRWA provided 292 consultations to displaced civilians in Yalda on 19 August 2015. &#169; 2015 UNRWA Photo<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#00a1e0;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>CALL FOR SUPPORT<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&#8226; As violence continues to profoundly threaten the lives and safety of Palestine refugees throughout Syria, UNRWA appeals for donors to increase their support to the Agency&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/2EE364612E91406485257DB30057BBDD.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">Syria Crisis Appeal<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&nbsp;has received only 30.8% of the funds needed for 2015.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&#8226; The capacity of the Agency to sustain life-saving emergency interventions, whilst responding immediately to urgent developments such as the one impacting Yarmouk since April 1<\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:5pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\"><sup>st<\/sup><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">, is undermined by chronic underfunding for humanitarian interventions inside Syria.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226; More than 95% of Palestine refugees now rely on UNRWA to meet their daily needs of food, water and healthcare.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8226;Priority interventions include cash assistance which enables UNRWA to serve up to 470,000 Palestine refugees in need.
