Foreign Minister Steinmeier issued the following statement in Berlin today (8 July) on the tense situation in the Middle East:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Three young Israelis and a Palestinian have been murdered. The unresolved conflict in the Middle East is continuing to cost lives.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The firing of rockets from the Gaza Strip has led to a situation that threatens to cause a spirral of violence and counter-violence.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

It goes without saying that Israel has the right to protect its citizens from rocket attacks.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

I hope that all sides will agree that a military confrontation, which could spiral out of control, must be averted.<\/p><\/div>\n
