New York, 21 June 2014<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Secretary-General and Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke on the telephone yesterday. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Secretary-General conveyed to the Prime Minister his sympathy for the abducted Israeli teenagers and deep solidarity with their families. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

He recalled that he had consistently and unambiguously spoken out on terrorism, and would continue to do so.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Secretary-General also expressed concern over the increased violence, mass arrests, and restrictions on movement in the West Bank. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

He further said that it was imperative, for both political and security reasons, not to give in to provocations in a way that seems likely to escalate tensions still further. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Secretary-General stressed that he expected all sides to exert efforts to this end, show restraint and to observe human rights standards and international law.<\/p><\/div>\n
