On February 6, Israel’s Knesset approved a law legalising outposts established with the participation of the Israeli state on private Palestinian land on the West Bank of the Jordan River. This legal act covers about 4,000 houses built on occupied Palestinian territory without the permission of the Israeli government, which they themselves considered illegal until now.<\/p><\/div>\n

Moscow is deeply concerned by Israel’s decision. Without a doubt, it has the potential to be extremely detrimental to the cause of achieving a lasting and reliable Palestinian-Israeli settlement. In fact, it casts doubt on the prospects of achieving a two-state solution to the Palestinian problem, and represents a threat to international efforts to restart the peace process.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Russia continues to believe that all issues related to determining the final status of the Palestinian territories, including borders, should be addressed through direct political dialogue between the parties. In this regard, any actions predetermining the outcome of such negotiations seem counterproductive.<\/p><\/div>\n
