May 1, 2003: Remarks by EU High Representative for CFSP, Javier SOLANA, on the occasion of meetings with the Israeli and Palestinian representatives in Brussels, following the presentation of the "Road Map" (Brussels)<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n

After yesterday's Quartet presentation of the Road Map to the Government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, the High Representative of the European Union for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, met today with the Ambassador of Israel, Mr. Oded Eran, and with the General Delegate of Palestine, Mr. Chawki Armali. He made the following remarks:<\/p><\/div>\n

"The European Union is part of the Quartet, and as such will follow the development of the Roadmap. We are all going to work so that it gets implemented rapidly. Implementation is my major concern. Because we have had already so many documents that have never been implemented. I would like very much that this one – that has the full support of the whole international community: President Bush, the European Union, the Russian Federation and the Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan – is implemented rapidly. We have an opportunity to bring about a reality that is the dream of everybody, which is two states that can live together in a neighbourhood in which both states are fully recognised and live in peace.<\/p><\/div>\n

La feuille de route a le soutien de toute la communauté internationale. Je tiens à répéter qu’elle bénéficie du soutien du Président Bush, du Secrétaire-général des Nations-Unies, de l’Union européenne et de la Fédération de Russie. Il est difficile de trouver un soutien aussi fort pour une initiative internationale. Maintenant, il faut que le processus de mise en oeuvre commence. L’Union européenne va travailler au sein du Quartet pour rendre réalité le contenu de la feuille de route. C’est notre ambition et nous allons oeuvrer sans relâche à cette fin. La situation internationale, le moment où la feuille de route à été présentée ainsi que le changement dans le camp des Palestiniens, les efforts qu’ils ont fait – tout cela démontre la détermination et en même temps autorise l’espoir dans un processus qui est indispensable."<\/p><\/div>\n
