\n\t\t\t\tAmman, 8\/6\/2006, (Communication & Information Division – Royal Hashemite Court) — His Majesty King Abdullah said that a two-state solution was the only solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and could only be achieved through negotiations and agreements based on the Middle East Road Map.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t"A negotiated agreement that leads to a viable and contiguous independent Palestinian state, on Palestinian territory will help establish a just, comprehensive peace that provides security and stability to every Arab and Israeli, man, woman and child," the King said in a statement to the media following a brief meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tSuch a peace, he said, would be a peace that "people on both sides will defend and protect now and in the future."\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tJordan, he said, is committed to helping Palestinians and Israelis realize the peace to which the people of the region aspire.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tThe meeting, which took place in Amman, was the first between the two leaders since Olmert became prime minister in April.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tOlmert has said that Israel may unilaterally draw its eastern border and withdraw from areas of the occupied West Bank, actions which could deprive the Palestinians of their internationally recognized right to a viable and contiguous independent state.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tAddressing reporters after their talks, Olmert said that Israel is "committed to the Road Map and to advancing the bilateral track with the Palestinians."\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tKing Abdullah voiced Jordan's concern about the worsening economic and humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories and said he told Olmert that all parties should work together to guarantee the resumption of aid to the Palestinian people.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tThe Israeli prime minister said Israel would "take concrete measures to improve the humanitarian situation of the Palestinian population" and would facilitate any aid that comes to the Palestinians from Jordan.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tOlmert called Jordan a "true partner for peace" and said that for Israel, "transparent relations with Jordan are fundamental, essential and of strategic importance."\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
