On December 16, Ambassador at Large Alexander Kalugin, the Russian Foreign Minister's special Middle East envoy, is setting off for the Middle East region by order of Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The aim of the trip is to hold contacts with the regional parties, and the Quartet of International Mediators partners, including in the context of the preparations for the election for Head of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on January 9, 2005. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Russia intends to send its observers to participate in the monitoring of the electoral process and counts on the appropriate cooperation of the authorities of Israel and the PNA. <\/p><\/div>\n
