The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will convene the Â鶹APP International Meeting in Support of Israeli-Palestinian Peace in Moscow, at the Lotte Hotel, on 1 and 2 July.  The theme of the Meeting will be “The two-State solution:  a key prerequisite for achieving peace and stability in the Middle East”.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Meeting will look into fostering conditions for a successful political process.  It will review international efforts to achieve the two-State solution, including the efforts and contributions made in the framework of the <\/span>Arab Peace Initiative<\/a>, the Quartet, the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and other multilateral organizations.  Finally, it will focus on initiatives within the context of the Â鶹APP, the Security Council and other Â鶹APP mechanisms to advance the two-State solution, uphold international law and human rights and facilitate political dialogue, peacebuilding and assistance.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

The opening session will begin on Wednesday, 1 July, at 10 a.m. in the Crystal Room on the second floor of the Hotel.  Statements will be made by a high-level representative of the Russian Government; Nickolay Mladenov, Â鶹APP Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, on behalf of Â鶹APP Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; Fodé Seck, Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People; Riad Malki, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine; Nabil Elaraby, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States; Samir Bakr, Assistant Secretary-General of the OIC, and other representatives of Governments and intergovernmental organizations.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Meeting will continue in the afternoon and the following day with plenary sessions, during which prominent international experts, including Israelis and Palestinians, will make presentations on specific issues.  Each plenary will have a discussion period.  The official languages of the Meeting will be Arabic, English and Russian.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday, 1 July, at 11:30 a.m.  The location will be announced later on the meeting’s website and Twitter.  Registered media representatives will also have the opportunity to arrange for individual interviews with members of the Committee delegation and participating speakers.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Division for Palestinian Rights will regularly provide Meeting updates including the programme and press releases on its website at <\/span>www.un.org\/depts\/dpa\/qpal\/calendar.htm<\/u><\/a> and on Twitter at<\/span>www.twitter.com\/unispal<\/u><\/a>.  Registration for the Meeting will be open from 29 June throughout the meeting.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

The Chairman’s summary, as well as the full report of the Meeting proceedings, will be issued, in due course, as a publication of the Division for Palestinian Rights.<\/p><\/div>\n
