category rating,<br \/>\nenvironmental assessments are not proposed.&nbsp;&nbsp;Proposals for new wells will<br \/>\nrequire a permit from the responsible authority and in addition are to be<br \/>\nreviewed by the Water Resources Action Program.&nbsp;&nbsp;The expansion of wastewater<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Courier New, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">treatment capacity is already committed by bilateral donors.&nbsp;&nbsp;Any project<br \/>\nincreasing the quantity of collected wastewater will include consideration of<br \/>\nthe adequacy of treatment and disposal\/reuse.<br \/>\n______________________________________________________________________________<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;JUSTIFICATION\/RATIONALE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CATEGORY:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The activities to be supported comprise small and medium projects for<br \/>\nthe rehabilitation, upgrading and extension of water and wastewater services<br \/>\nwhose potential environmental impact can be anticipated and effective<br \/>\nmeasures taken to address any potential issues.&nbsp;&nbsp;Provision has been made that<br \/>\nany studies supported under the proposed project to prepare projects for<br \/>\nimplementation under the proposed project or through any other program or<br \/>\ndonor organization would include the preparation of environmental assessments<br \/>\nor environmental reviews consistent with the requirements of the Palestinian<br \/>\nauthorities and the World Bank.&nbsp;&nbsp;The project has no anticipated resettlement<br \/>\nrequirements, and does not impact wetlands, wildlands coral reefs or the<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Courier New, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">habitat of endangered species.<br \/>\n______________________________________________________________________________<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;REPORTING SCHEDULE:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;N\/A<br \/>\n______________________________________________________________________________<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;REMARKS:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The proposed project activities have been identified and would be<br \/>\ndeveloped in close collaboration with Palestinian authorities and will be<br \/>\nreviewed by environmental authorities.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Project Steering Committee will<br \/>\ninclude a representative from the environmental authority.&nbsp;&nbsp;Close<br \/>\ncollaboration is maintained with the Environment Department of the Ministry<br \/>\nof Planning and International Cooperation and the technical assistance<br \/>\nprogram from the Netherlands on the Environmental Profile of Gaza.&nbsp;&nbsp;In most<br \/>\ncases there are few if any alternatives to the proposed projects.&nbsp;&nbsp;Least cost<br \/>\nanalysis will generally be relied upon for economic analysis, including any<br \/>\nenvironmental costs.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project: WEST BANK AND GAZA-Gaza Water &amp;
