STATEMENT BY MINISTER MACKAY ON THE MIDDLE EAST<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay today issued the following statement, reaffirming Canada’s commitment to the goal of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East:<\/p><\/div>\n

“Any assistance to a new Palestinian government will require that government’s commitment to the principle of non-violence, recognition of Israel and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations, including the Quartet’s Roadmap for Peace.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

“Canada is currently providing humanitarian aid in the region through various Â鶹APP and non-governmental agencies. However, all funding is subject to further review as the situation develops and future funding will depend on the statements and actions of a new government. During this interim period prior to the formation of a new government, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has Canada’s full support.”<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
