High Representative Federica Mogherini today joined representatives from more than 70 countries at a major conference in Paris on how to achieve peace in the Middle East.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

European Union is leading efforts to kickstart talks with the aim of a peace settlement based on two states and has played a leading role through its involvement in the Middle East Quartet.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Middle East Peace Process will be on Monday on the agenda at the regular meeting of EU foreign ministers, chaired by Federica Mogherini.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

EU foreign ministers will also discuss the situation in Syria. HRVP Mogherini will update them on the  EU Regional Initiative on the future of Syria, which aims to identify with regional partners common ground on the post-conflict arrangements  for the country and examine the scope for reconciliation and reconstruction once a credible political transition is firmly under way.<\/p><\/div>\n

The second round of talks on the initiative – with Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon, and Qatar – began last week.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

As they meet for the first time this year, the Ministers will also look ahead to foreign policy priorities for the first part of 2017.<\/p><\/div>\n
