<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t51\/25.\t<\/span>Special information programme on the question of Palestine<\/u>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>of the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat<\/u>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The General Assembly<\/u>,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Having considered<\/u> the report of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People,1<\/u>\/<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Taking note in particular<\/u> of the information contained in chapter VI of that report,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling<\/u> its resolution 50\/84 C of 15 December 1995,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Convinced<\/u> that the worldwide dissemination of accurate and comprehensive information and the role of non-governmental organizations and institutions remain of vital importance in heightening awareness of and support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Aware<\/u> of the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements signed by the Government of the State of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization in Washington, D.C., on 13 September 1993,2<\/u>\/ and of the subsequent implementation agreements, in particular the Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip signed in Washington on 28 September 1995, and their positive implications,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Notes<\/u> that several defined provisions of the special information programme on the question of Palestine of the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat are yet to be implemented, and stresses the importance of implementation of all provisions of the programme;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Considers<\/u> that the special information programme is very useful in raising the awareness of the international community concerning the complexities of the question of Palestine and the situation in the Middle East in general, including the achievements of the peace process, and that the programme is contributing effectively to an atmosphere conducive to dialogue and supportive of the peace process;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Requests<\/u> the Department, in full cooperation and coordination with the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, to continue, with the necessary flexibility as may be required by developments affecting the question of Palestine, its special information programme for the biennium 1996-1997, with particular emphasis on public opinion in Europe and North America and, in particular:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(a<\/u>)\t<\/span>To disseminate information on all the activities of the Â鶹APP system relating to the question of Palestine, including reports on the work carried out by the relevant Â鶹APP organizations;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(b<\/u>)\t<\/span>To continue to issue and update publications on the various aspects of the question of Palestine in all fields, including materials concerning the recent developments in that regard and, in particular, the achievements of the peace process;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(c<\/u>)\t<\/span>To expand its audiovisual material on the question of Palestine, including the production of such material;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(d<\/u>)\t<\/span>To organize and promote fact-finding news missions for journalists to the area, including the territories under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority and the occupied territories;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(e<\/u>)\t<\/span>To organize international, regional and national encounters for journalists;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(f<\/u>)\t<\/span>To provide, in cooperation with the relevant bodies and agencies of the Â鶹APP system, particularly the Â鶹APP Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, assistance to the Palestinian people in the field of media development, including training for Palestinian broadcasters and journalists.<\/p><\/div>\n
