57\/198. The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination<\/strong> <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 \t<\/span>The General Assembly<\/i>,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Aware <\/i>that the development of friendly relations among nations, based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, is among the purposes and principles of the Â鶹APP, as defined in the Charter, <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling<\/i><\/span> the International Covenants on Human Rights,<\/span> <\/span>1<\/u><\/sup><\/a> <\/span>the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,<\/span> <\/span>2<\/u><\/sup><\/a> <\/span>the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples<\/span>3<\/u><\/sup><\/a> <\/sup><\/span>and the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action adopted at the World Conference on Human Rights on 25 June 1993,<\/span> <\/span>4<\/u><\/sup><\/a> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 <\/span>\t<\/span>Recalling also<\/i><\/span> the Declaration on the Occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Â鶹APP,<\/span>5 <\/u><\/sup><\/a><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling further<\/i><\/span> the Â鶹APP Millennium Declaration,<\/span> <\/span>6<\/u><\/sup><\/a> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 \t<\/span>Expressing<\/i> the urgent need for the resumption of negotiations within the Middle East peace process on its agreed basis and for the speedy achievement of a final settlement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Affirming <\/i>the right of all States in the region to live in peace within secure and internationally recognized borders,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Reaffirms<\/i> the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Urges<\/i> all States and the specialized agencies and organizations of the Â鶹APP system to continue to support and assist the Palestinian people in the early realization of their right to self-determination.<\/p><\/div>\n
