I should like to weigh in on a subject of major concern that is the focus of the international community’s attention — the Palestinian question. In spite of the many injunctions of the international community, the Palestinian people continue to suffer. Arbitrary violence, settlements and the seizure of goods continue to be the people’s daily lot. Guinea reiterates its unceasing support for the Palestinian cause, in the belief that peace and stability in the Middle East require the implementation of the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the road map of the Quartet, which foresees the creation of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian State living side by side and in peace with Israel within safe and internationally recognized borders. We express the hope that the negotiations under way will enable the Palestinian people to finally enjoy their inalienable rights.<\/p><\/div>\n

We express the hope that the two-State solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will gain more substance, allowing the peoples of both countries the prospect of peace and prosperity. <\/p><\/div>\n

On the question of Israeli-Palestinian relations, Grenada remains convinced that a two-State solution is essential to ending that conflict and urges both parties to conduct the present round of negotiations in good faith. Grenada has good relations with the Government and people of Israel and is a strong advocate for Israel’s right to coexist in peace with its neighbours. Furthermore, Grenada has long been a supporter of the people of Palestine. Grenada is proud to have joined with neighbouring countries in recognizing the State of Palestine and in signing a memorandum of understanding based upon friendship and upon an understanding of a two-State solution.<\/p><\/div>\n
